BIG terminate gade's contract citing mutual agreement

The 27-year-old is now free to explore new opportunities after having spent the last eight months on the bench.

BIG have announced on their official Twitter account that the organization and benched rifler Nicklas "⁠gade⁠" Gade have mutually agreed to a contract termination, giving the Dane freedom to pursue different opportunities.

gade has been out of action since December of 2021 when BIG replaced him with Josef "⁠faveN⁠" Baumann from fellow German side Sprout in a move of "unprecedented size in German CS". This saw the Dane moved to the inactive roster after the team's lackluster back half of the year.

The Danish rifler found himself without a team in early July of last year when his previous squad HYENAS disbanded. BIG quickly scooped him up and announced the signing the very next day, where he would fill in the spot vacated by the outgoing Ismailcan "⁠XANTARES⁠" Dörtkardeş.

Despite having shaken things up within the roster, BIG's struggles continued as they put up extremely poor results in notable tournaments, such as finishing 17-20th at EPL Season 14, 9-11th at the PGL Major Stockholm Challengers Stage, and 9th-12th at IEM Winter. The string of poor results all led to gade's benching at the end of the year in favor of the incoming faveN, and the Dane has been out of action ever since.

"We have mutually agreed with gade to terminate his player contract so he can freely pursue new opportunities," BIG announced on their Twitter post. "Thank you for everything Nicklas, and best of luck in your next chapter!"

You don't get it? There is a huge advantage for a football club to have 30 players on contract. To increase the quality of training passes. To let young players learn from experienced. To have the ability to practice set pieces, defensive structure etc. A CSGO team has no advantage of a 6th player on the bench, that they just want to get rid of.

Not really, too many kinda supportive players, and no real star to get a multikill in close games a decide the match. I mean, in OG, valde played support/anchor. Zyphon was same kinda supportive lurky player. Refrezh something similar in Heroic. And gade definitely isn’t the star to carry them

Bruh you kidding me? Zyphon takes a lot of initiative on the T side with crucial entries in close matches. Valde played a lot of star roles when north was actually decent, just a shame aleksi was an underwhelming igl in og tbh. Refrezh isnt bad by any means either. This team with acor and a more capable igl than gade could actually do something for sure if acor finds his old form with the danish speaking team

Yeah, maybe I was over analyzing a bit here, but the thing is, when you look at the top teams, you have a star riflers who can step up and get a crucial multikill. But players in this team were all basically a 3rd option in their former teams (I didn’t watch tons of CPH, but Zyphon was their 4th highest rated player, refrezh wasn’t higher than fourth option in Heroic, valde became a great rifler in OG, but originally he was meant to be the 3rd option as well). I mean sure, maybe they aren’t that passive and supportive as I was saying before, but doesn’t change the fact that they don’t have a real star who would take over games, only one capable of MAYBE doing that is valde.
