YEKINDAR becomes free agent

The Latvian has bought himself out of his contract with Virtus.pro.

Mareks "YEKINDAR" Gaļinskis has become a free agent after buying himself out of his contract with Virtus.pro, the Latvian announced via his Twitter account.

The move officially brings an end to a two-year partnership between the rifler and Russian organisation, dating back to May 2020 when he was brought on as a replacement for Timur "buster" Tulepov.

YEKINDAR has spent the past three months as a stand-in for Liquid

YEKINDAR was a part of Virtus.pro — later Outsiders — for over two years. During that time, the 23-year-old powered his side to playoff appearances at several Big Events, namely locking in 5-6th place finishes at IEM Cologne 2021 and IEM Katowice 2022, alongside a top-eight finish at PGL Major Stockholm. The Latvian star also netted himself an appearance on HLTV's top 20 players of 2021, his 1.14 rating across the year being enough to gift him a spot at No. 8 on the ranking.

YEKINDAR made no secret of the uncertainty of his spot on the Outsiders roster following Russia's invasion of Ukraine back in February. In an interview with sportacentrs.com towards the end of IEM Katowice, the 23-year-old stated that, "if there are any regulations or restrictions regarding the arrival of my teammate from Russia to the tournaments, visa [issues], or rules from the organizers themselves, then it is very likely that there will be some changes." Changes eventually followed, with both YEKINDAR and buster being benched by the organisation following the squad's 9-12th place run through PGL Major Antwerp back in May.

YEKINDAR also referenced the change in ownership at Virtus.pro as a reason for the delay in his release from his contract. The organisation is now run by Armenian national Aram Karamanukyan, the CEO of the company.

Virtus.pro bench YEKINDAR and buster

In recent times, YEKINDAR has been seen plying his trade with Liquid, becoming a staple member of the team that has seen a rebound in form — notably finishing runners up at the recently-concluded ESL Pro League Season 16 before securing their place at IEM Major Rio with a first-place showing at the IEM Road to Rio Americas RMR.

YEKINDAR has been linked with an official move to Liquid for the past few months, though US-imposed sanctions on Virtus.pro have made any transfer up until this point seem unlikely. With the Latvian now released from his contract, there appears to be little to no roadblocks in preventing the 23-year-old from officially completing the jump to the North American roster, with YEKINDAR also set to participate at IEM Major Rio with Nick "nitr0" Cannella and company.

That would be pretty impressive. - Latvian - Russian - English - Danish … that is four languages of very little similarity. Not the same as speaking Danish, Norwegian and Swedish. Especially since his family were Russian speaking as far as I recall.

This is a weird mentality. I personally thoroughly enjoyed the dominant Astralis era, it was beautiful and structural cs that other teams couldn't match at the time. Point being that it's not the dominant team's fault for winning everything, it's the other teams' fault for not stepping up and improving. The overall level of CS evolves through these dominant eras, which ultimately results in a better viewing experience over time. This could literally be summed up in this classic phrase for the teams on the other side of the dominance coin: git gud.

I disagree. Having a team full of superstars has always been a mixed bag in the past, I don't think it would massively change Na`Vi for the better. If a team is able to get their desired roster full of S-tier players, all the more power to them.

he was expiring contract, that means he was probably going to be free player in 4,5 months.Vp has a choice,do we let him for 200-300k right now,or do we risk that liquid is that desperate that they will pay full price.Vp choose what everyone would, give him for 3rd of that and dont risk him going out for 0 euros , in 4,5 months when his contract is expired. You guys on hltv and reddit, never use your brains, just talk nonsense

200k or 300k is still much for a player Alone. He needs the support of an org. 1 million it was 4 months ago. So, it is sill probably around 400k 500k.

300k is nothing for an org. sure, but for a player, I doubt they have the capacity to invest that amount of money. It is still a huge risk. Either Navi or Liquid will give a compensation, but regarding of navi's politics, I doubt they will give the money to a russian org. I'm not saying Navi don't want or Yekindar don't want to be on Navi, it is more the context of the buyout, which is odd. Elige was the star of liquid and they invested on him/ around him. Yekindar is probably the new elige, he would probably have a huge balance on the new roster move. Yekindar want control and they will have a lot of control in liquid. Navi is clearly a better team overall, but the gap is not that huge rn.

money was never the problem, only that Liquid (US org) couldn't pay it straight to VP (Russian org). They might have just decided that no other option (or middle man) was going to appear and this was a viable solution.

liquid have defiantly became good since he arrived but he and the fans have to understand that liquid is still won't able to win title's with OSEE in team, no hate for him but if liquid gets more aggresive and consistent awper i think they are pretty much ready to fight for titles rather than getting eliminated in q-finals every events.

I agree about consistent, but not agressive awper. Look on vp, look nw on liquid. Yekindar is taking all agressive roles for a team. You cannot have an agressive awper and an agressive rifler at the same time. Structure-wise, it is not a viable plan. Someone has to smoke & flashes for others. The way liquid is playing rn, Yekindar is the playmaker, like in VP. Vitality is build around Zywoo.

sorry mb i put it in wrong way but by saying more aggressive i was meant to say awper that can deliver the pace after yeki goes for entry, i mean i have seen thsi many time at t side when yeki have killed 2 players in banana and dies from 3rd b player while osee is litrally standing at t slop doing nothing, o i mean kind of awper follows the aggression which get's left after or yeki fails sometime, coz naf and elige are those kind of player you can rely on converting rounds with 1 or even 2 man disadvantage some points. all i want in the awper is that just don't make yeki only the aggressor but someone have to follow him and looking at this line up i think awper is best option to do it.
2022-10-14 23:06

The way you describe the situation it is not a matter of agressive/passive, it is how osee is set. Also, it is rare you see the second player as an awper . He misses the shot and it is done.

If it was 2021 Navi, that's a no brainer. Now S1mple is not motivated or distracted, b1t regressed. And what's going on with an org - do they have a new headquarter, will Russian players get their visas renewed etc? Too many question marks

if u go dust2 us elige has talked in an interview where he suggests that liquid will be spending time off to revise playbook which suggests that they either already have a player lined up to replace yekindar if him to liquid isnt already a done deal (which it basically is), they're revising with yekindar standing in for major as his last event (less unlikely but still unlikely), OR liquid is long-term planning with yekindar in the lineup

It will now all come down to what he thinks is best for him. If he wants to compete at big tournaments every month and have a chance of winning them with Na`Vi, he will definitely come to us. If he wants to waste his talent trying to carry n1tro, washed up elige and bot oSee, then so be it. But I feel if he's smart enough to realize that the only option left for him was to buy himself out of VP - then I think he would be smart enough to make the decision to come to Na`Vi. Not to mention, the money he has spent buying himself out would definitely be paid in half (if not in full) by the org he decides to join. Regardless of whoever he joins, I hope to see him perform well. He's a really good talent.

did no one pick up on the wording used? He 'bought himself' out? Are we supposed to believe that Liquid told him to use his own money to by himself out? That would be liquid's responsibility. It seems more like they funded him so that it would look like he bought the contract out and not them since no org wants to give VP any money. Same situation with Navi and them not getting any good players from VP.

I am sure it will be Liquid but I wish C9 would try to get him. Better environment for him for sure. He was quite annoyed by the form his US teammates were in after the break.

Pretty sure Liquid paid it for him. I see no reason why would he spend his own money to become free agent with no salary....look at device, easy life ,easy money on the bench

Bah, everything can happen, but honestly, I doubt yekindar bought his buyout with his personnal funds.

Liquid just paid him a high salary for the buyout or do it afterwards

awesome stuff, he's too smart to go to astralis, he'll go navi and replace sdy or g2 and hopefully replace hooxi, if they remove jks i'd imagine it's essentially the same result

inb4 Liquid are too busy with thinking things over and some other team snaps him up from under their nose.

Nice, now he can finally become a Liquid player and win the major. See no other team that he can join that won't be a downgrade

Calm down mens. As an esports organisation I can not buy Yekindan from Virtus.pro directly. So I offered Yekindan to buyout himself from Virtus.pro. Then I can pay back that price to Yekindar as a contract signing fee. Probably Liquid made this and even paid him anough while he was stand-in to afford his buyout.
