Outsiders claim No. 1 spot in rankings after Rio Major win
It's time to have a look at the rankings in the wake of the results from the IEM Rio Major.
The second major of 2022 came to an end on Sunday, and it was Dzhami "Jame" Ali's Outsiders who emerged on top to take home the most acclaimed title in the Counter-Strike calendar after a surprising run in Rio de Janeiro. Their unexpected victory gave them enough points to explode up the rankings and claim the No. 1 spot for the first time. HEROIC also moved up the ranks to claim the No. 2 spot after their runner up-finish in Rio, while Cloud9 round out the top three.
The main drop-offs are Vitality, FaZe and Liquid, who occupied the top three spots right before the Major and now sit in seventh, eighth, and ninth place respectively. Similarly, G2 have slipped down the order to occupy the No.12 spot after missing out on qualification for the Valve-sponsored event.

For new readers or those in need of a refresher, here's a summary of how the HLTV World Ranking by 1xBet works:
Our team ranking is based on teams' achievements over the past year (with severe decay in points throughout each month), recent form over the last two months, and performance in recent events in the last 3 months.
Each team is required to have a three-man core in order to retain their points. Due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak, online results, which previously had a minimal effect, now carry more weight as they are also included in the 'Achievements' and 'Recent Events' sub-categories.
Below is the current top 30 table as of Monday, November 14, which goes more in-depth into how the points are distributed — or you can check our special page, where you will be able to find the latest, weekly version of our ranking. You can see the lineup for each team by hovering over their name in the table.

Outsiders at the top of the world
The Russian squad led by Jame came into the Rio Major ranked eighth in the world, with very few people having Outsiders anywhere near their predictions for winners. Our own power rankings put them as the 13th best team at the event, while their Major profile stated: "It’s near impossible to make a case for Outsiders to upset their way to a title run, or even a wild run to the grand final like Jame and Qikert did at StarLadder Berlin."

The loss of Mareks "YEKINDAR" Gaļinskis earlier in the year was a huge blow to the squad, and while the signing of K23 duo of David "n0rb3r7" Danielyan and Petr "fame" Bolyshev appeared as a good step forward to bring the squad back into the top 10, Major title contention in six months seemed an impossible task. A runner-up finish at ESL Challenger Valencia 2022 showed a glimpse of the lineup's potential, but it took a few months for it to be shown again. ESL Challenger Rotterdam in October ended with the Russian squad taking home the trophy and signaled that they had a winning spark in them.
Outsiders' run at the Major included two best-of-three victories over MOUZ and fnatic, squads that impressed at the tournament and secured spots in the playoffs. Their campaign in Rio culminated in a 2-0 win over HEROIC in the grand final, securing their first-ever Major trophy and the top spot in the rankings.

Heroic runners-up once again
The Danish squad led by Casper "cadiaN" Møller claimed the No.2 spot in the world rankings after a second-place finish at the Rio Major. HEROIC started off their journey in Brazil in the Legends Stage and only suffered a loss to Cloud9 before the playoffs, even taking a best-of-one victory over eventual champions Outsiders on the way. Wins over Spirit and crowd favorites FURIA secured the Danes a ticket to the grand final and a rematch against the Russian squad, but they failed to replicate their performance from earlier in the tournament and were sent home without laying claim to the trophy.

HEROIC were ranked seventh before the Major started, and their grand final run was enough for them to jump five places in the global rankings. However, they still display a gap of more than 200 points compared to Outsiders. The last time the Danes climbed to a top two position on the ladder was in May 2021, right after a fourth-place finish at Flashpoint 3.

FaZe and Vitality tumble down
FaZe and Vitality held the top two spots in the rankings before IEM Rio, but their disappointing runs at the tournament resulted in the two European squads falling down the order to No.8 and No.7 respectively. The teams led by Finn "karrigan" Andersen and Dan "apEX" Madesclaire were considered among the favorites to lift the Major trophy, but they both failed to live up to expectations with disappointing exits from the Legends Stage.
FaZe conceded a 13-4 lead to eventually lose 14-16 against Cloud9 in their opening match of the event, perfectly setting up the tone for their Major title defense. A one-sided loss to Vitality quickly followed, sending the PGL Major Antwerp champions to the 0-2 pool against Bad News Eagles. The European squad gambled in the veto and lost to the Kosovars on Vertigo, making up for things with a win on Nuke before dropping a lead on Mirage to lose the series and get eliminated from the tournament with an 0-3 record.

There were signs of weakness also shown by Vitality, starting in the Challengers Stage with losses to GamerLegion and Outsiders. That put the European mix on the verge of elimination, but they managed to scrape through the first phase of the Major with wins over Grayhound and OG to qualify for the Legends Stage.
Vitality's win over FaZe was all apEX's men claimed in the second phase as losses over Natus Vincere, MOUZ, and a sweep at the hands of ENCE sent the European mix home in 12-14th place — a dismal early exit for a team that had won ESL Pro League Season 16 just one month prior.

FURIA in the top five after semi-final run
The Brazilians of FURIA came into the Major ranked No.10 in the world and with a lot of pressure to perform in front of their home crowd. A shaky start against BIG was quickly brushed off as they qualified for the Legends Stage after victories over their compatriots from 00NATION, OG, and GamerLegion.
The Brazilians carried their improved form into the second phase of the event and cruised to the playoffs with a 3-0 record counting wins over ENCE, Spirit, and BIG. Their first match in the knockout stage put the Brazilians up against Natus Vincere, but Andrei "arT" Piovezan's men did not crumble under the pressure, and instead fed off the home support from the crowd to bring the Ukrainian squad all the way to three maps.
FURIA barely missed out on Nuke (14-16) before beating Natus Vincere on Ancient (16-10) and Mirage (16-10) to secure a spot in the semi-final. Despite eliminating another favorite from the tournament, the Brazilian team's journey came to an end shortly afterward at the hands of HEROIC. FURIA's run in Rio was still enough to push them into the top five of the global rankings, putting them just below Natus Vincere heading into the final stint of the year.
