00NATION secure ESL Pro League Season 17 Conference spot

Epitacio "⁠TACO⁠" de Melo's men came out on top of the Brazilian league after almost getting knocked out in the group stage.

00NATION have secured a spot at the ESL Pro League Season 17 Conference following a 3-1 victory (8-16 Vertigo, 16-2 Nuke, 16-5 Overpass, 22- 19 Ancient) over ARCTIC in the grand final of ESL Brazil Premier League Season 13.

The eight-team tournament had its field reduced to seven ahead of its start after Corinthians parted ways with their lineup on December 7, leaving three teams standing in Group A and four in Group B.

The GSL group stage played out in its entirety on December 9, with Fluxo becoming the first team to get knocked out after they forfeited to ODDIK in their opening match and lost to 9z in their second. O PLANO also suffered an early exit after back-to-back losses to 00NATION in Group A, while 9z were also sent packing in Group B following losses to Sharks and ODDIK.

00NATION began the event with a relatively easy 2-1 win over Vito "⁠kNgV-⁠" Giuseppe's side, but suffered a loss to ARCTIC in the ensuing winners' match and were made to work for their second victory over O PLANO, just barely edging out a series win. A similarly close 2-0 victory over Sharks in the semi-finals earned TACO and company a spot in the grand final, where they were given the chance to claim revenge over ARCTIC.

An inspired performance from Marcello "⁠MaLLby⁠" Czarneski kicked off ARCTIC's effort in the title-deciding series, helping them to upset 00NATION on their own map pick of Vertigo. The momentum of the match quickly shifted from that point onward, however, and 00NATION answered right back with one-sided wins on Nuke and Overpass before struggling to close out a 12-0 lead on Ancient, eventually managing to edge out victory in double overtime to take home the win.

00NATION join 17 other teams in the Conference stage of ESL Pro League Season 17, from which six teams will secure berths to the main league season. EPL S17 is scheduled to play out from February 21 - April 2, 2023.
