Valve Regional Ranking list locked ahead of RMR closed qualifier invites

The tentative list of teams that will participate in the regional closed qualifiers for the BLAST.tv Paris Major RMR events is now available.

Valve has updated their Regional Rankings following the conclusion of IEM Katowice, and the tentative list of teams who should receive invites to compete in the BLAST.tv Paris Regional Major Ranking closed qualifiers can now be analyzed.

The final list remains subject to change by Valve and BLAST, as well as based on a handful of other factors. Tweaks to individual rosters, organizations with multiple teams, and whether certain teams choose to compete in the North American or South American qualifiers can all still affect the final outcome, but the majority of teams listed below can now be sure of their attendance in their region's qualifiers.

As a brief refresher of the format, teams who made it to the Legends Stage of the IEM Rio Major have received direct invites to their respective RMR events. Additional teams competing at those RMRs will be determined through regional closed qualifiers, with Europe having two closed qualifiers with 16 teams each, North America and South America each getting a qualifier with 16 teams each, and Asia, China, Oceania, and the Middle East each getting one, eight-team qualifier.

Half of the teams in each closed qualifier are determined by Valve's Regional Ranking, while the other half earn their spots through the upcoming open qualifiers. As such, the final update to Valve's ranking is crucial as a number of teams now know whether they can avoid the open qualification stage entirely.

The tentative list of teams who should receive invites to their respective regional closed qualifier (in order of seeding, left to right) can be found below:

Europe

Note: Invited teams in Europe will be split evenly based on seeding between RMR Closed Qualifier A and RMR Closed Qualifier B.

North America

Notes: MIBR, paiN, and TeamOne can choose to compete in the SA qualifier instead. In case they choose to change regions, Strife, DETONATE, and timbermen are next in line.

EG Black and EG White have been left off the list as the organization would not be allowed to field multiple rosters.

South America

Note: O PLANO, ARCTIC, and Corinthians would fall off the list, in that order, if one of the Brazilian teams in North America chose to compete in South America instead.

Note: Nixuh has since disbanded, and may forfeit their spot. Bravado has changed a majority of their roster and may forfeit their spot.

Does it even matter when they are not anywhere near of being invited. Since they did win everything on the female side and that wasn't enough, the only way for them to actually be invited is to go play some open tournaments and win some matches against male teams. Isn't that exactly like it should be?

Yes, but they literally cannot do any better on the female side. Meaning that they cannot be invited by results from female side alone. They definitely shouldn't get invited without winning some games against tier 3 teams first. But if that happens someday, I don't mind that they would get invited to the closed qualifier more easily than other teams.

They have competed in open circuit occasionally, CCT qualifiers for example, and failed. Valve has policy of including different groups of people in different ways so everyone can be part of it in meaningful way. This is pretty much the same as having slots for America and Asia teams and not only for global teams. Actually this is even less than that, because they don't actually get the slots from being women. This is pretty much nothing. We are talking about a ranking giving too much points from female tournaments that get them close to qualifying. Not that best female team actually gets invited to the qualifier.

what? my point still stands, tyloo didnt get an invite because they played nothing in ages meanwhile hsg did in ESL Impact (that has higher prizepool which influenced in them being higher in the Valve Ranking and getting the invite)

Don't know about Asia scene, but I agree that its a problem. Its problem with any event that has massive prizepool and only certain partner teams can have chance to attend.

You're wrong. If they had won like one more ESL Impact event they could have made it because prize money earned is one of the critera that matters and the reason why they are already that high.

You are correct in that sense that it is a problem if it would be possible to qualify by winning female events alone. But there was no more events to win. They won every tournament there was other than some cash cup tournaments. They literally could have not done any better without playing in open circuit.

The top 4 from grp A will join Euro RMR B which is already stacked with Heroic, cloud9, ence, vitality, nip. so G2, astralis may join them and only 3 places are available for the legend. Where as top 4 from grp B will join Euro RMR A, I can only see Navi and Faze as top team with 4 places available for the legend 🤣

Lets go KennyS, really want to see how Falcons and other French teams perform. Also why should SA teams be allowed to participate in NA qualifiers? Teams such as timbermen and other local teams could benefit from atleast taking part in it

Cause that's where the teams currently play from. Traveling isn't cheap, so it would be a little unfair to force teams to relocate for the major qualifiers. And I think it's only allowed for teams already playing in NA, so other SA teams can't just travel to NA if they're only doing it to play in the NA qualifiers.
2023-02-13 01:23

neutral banners wouldn't be enough to let them play. They'd still be getting payed by EG so there'd be conflict of interest if any of the 3 teams faced each other. Only way they could play is if they got dropped by EG.

anyone know the rules about in which region you can compete? it doesnt make sense to have teams being able to choose between SA and NA... then any NA or EU team would just bootcamp in SA and thats an easy pass for the major...

They have to contact BLAST for permission to play in a different region on a case by case basis, and I think it's generally only allowed if they were previously residing in that region, and not if they moved there specifically to play the major qualifiers.

This is fucking Stupid to let SA teams play in NA not giving NA teams chances and then saying NA teams dont deserve it, You've ALready started it in SA's Favour from Start NA teams are Outnumbered, Why can't they just simply base it on Nationality and region isn't what regionals and qualifiers are for?

The reason why it's stupid is because even after them stealing NA spots no one will consider them NA, because they have different Nationality, other wise lets just agree that NA is the superior region because furia, pain mibr including actual NA teams are in top 30 currently and no valve or esl recognized SA Teams, so SA < NA

HSG fe on the list? Is that the first time an all female team is participating in a Major Qualifier? I can see it happening one day, that a mix team or an all female team will play on the stage and maybe even win a Major.

Those invites are always controversial. Would be better to do 4 open quals

they [G2] deserved not to be in the RMR directly because they bombed the last one obviously, but it's a crazy unlikely scenario that a team went on such a progression that they went from not qualifying to becoming by far the best team in the world in the span of a single major cycle

To me it does not seem fair to allow South American teams to play in the North American qualifier even though the organisation's headquarters might be in NA. I can understand when there are special circumstances but some of the teams just make use of the spots unfairly.
