9z qualify for ESL Pro League Season 18

Only two more spots in the league are up for grabs before it kicks off on August 30.

dav1deuS stepped up in 9z's qualifying series

9z have secured qualification to ESL Pro League Season 18 through the South American open qualifier, defeating Meta, BESTIA, and 00NATION in the final three rounds of the bracket to earn their spot at the Maltese event.

The qualifier gave us a first look at some of the new Brazilian lineups formed during the off-season period, with 00NATION, Fluxo, and O PLANO all making it to the round of 16. All three teams were on the same side of the bracket, however, while 9z occupied the other side thanks to their No.1 seed.

The South American combine made it through their early matches with relative ease, only being tested by Meta before reaching the best-of-three semi-finals. There, 9z met BESTIA in a series that went the distance, with the teams taking 16-14 wins on each other's map picks before 9z barely took the Overpass decider over the line in overtime.

On the other side of the bracket, Fluxo succeeded in knocking out O PLANO in the round of 16, securing a 16-12 victory on Ancient to set up their own semi-final series against 00NATION, who had moved past Solid. It was Marcelo "coldzera" David's side who emerged victorious from that bout, taking the series 2-0 to set up a grand final against 9z.

Despite only just scraping by BESTIA in their previous matchup, 9z looked much more in form against 00NATION, with David "dav1deuS" Tapia Maldonado in particular stepping up on Anubis to steal away 00NATION's map pick, 16-7. His strong form continued on 9z's pick of Ancient, where and Santino "try" Rigal helped their side claw back from a 6-9 deficit with a strong CT side, giving up just two rounds en route to a 16-11 victory.

With the South America qualifier concluded, 30 of the 32 teams participating in EPL Season 18 have been determined. The two final spots will go to teams who advance through the NC Europe qualifier, scheduled to kick off on July 14.

alrighty that’s great))) But we still need ESL to be forced to drop the partnership gibberish by the time CS2 debuts and the scene transitions to such. No normal person wants to see garbage like Astralis, EG, and BIG being automatic qualifications just by buying a spot. Force every team to sweat their asses off.

nah, there is an actual chance since Valve has already stated that they don't like the partnership gibberish. And there's also the report that Valve wants shit to change in the scene when CS2 arrives, although it hasn't been shown if it's real or not. Ideally and on paper, it is legit and Valve wants the partnership garbage to go when the scene transitions to CS2. There may be alot of money involved but Valve as a company is pretty much more than happy to screw you over if it has to come to that. Besides, TOs can't organize without a license and to get a license, they have to comply with what Valve wants. If not then they're screwed out of such, meaning no hosting for them.

I understand but how esl does it its fine. The scene needs the money from somewhere to be alive. Blast is the extremization of this. At least esl has all the good teams because the spots are high.

I'm afraid Valve will do away with championship organizers and not supply the leagues they do around the world. Doing a few big championships a year is easy, creating a worldwide league ecosystem is hard.

it's extremely unfair, I don't get why Brazilian teams are even able to play this qualifier in the first place. ESL didn't let 9z play BPL(which already gives a Pro League spot) why do all Brazilian teams have a second chance? Imperial already won the Brazilian qualifier. Latam teams didn't have a second chance

''Brazil'' more like ESL/valve, no? Most Brazilians also think it's unfair to the rest of South America.

haven't you read all the tweets? even br players tweeted that they should let other latam teams in brazil premier league, it got to the point where ESL confirmed they did not put that rule, it was the BR branch that say the bullshit of "people living in brazil only"

You know these guys probably work for ESL, right? It's not like Brazil people or ''branch'' rules anything. In this printscreen 9Z's owner asked about the possibility of SA teams entering the BPL and the guy who is answering must have gone to talk about the possibility with those who have authority on ESL.

If there's one thing I've learned since I started following CS scene until now, it's not to believe what coaches and Orgs say. In my opinion, ESL Brasil shouldn't even have the authority to decide this, and even if it did, with pressure from whom? Since the Brazilian community wants other SA teams playing.

bruhhh, when u make a branch on another country, u basically delegate most of the decitions made there to that branch. And this happens on any company.

We don't know if this is what happens with ESL and ESL Brasil since there was no pressure from the BR community for only Brazilians to participate in the BPL, you just know what they want you to know

And as I said, Brazilian players, the Brazilian community, most want other SA countries to also play the qualify events, this seems to me to be an ESL/valve thing wanting BR only teams to take advantage of the BR viewership, and because they know that 9Z would take that extra spot like they usually do

ATK was the Org with issues, they couldn't reach a renewal, hopefully M18 is in talks to have the Core of ATK (swisher, reck wolfy) plus they're utilizing Guatemalan talent Malbs, this really is going to be an insane NA team plus this can encourage more NA countries to come up

It's fitting that a full fledged SA team is getting qualified from SA qualifiers rather then watching Another BR team just sayin I know other SA got talent too 9z making it will inspire them, 9z been looking hard from some time interesting to follow this team's growth
