The 28-year-old's contract, which was set to expire in 2025, has been extended an extra year.

Nicolai "⁠device⁠" Reedtz, one of the contenders for the GOAT title in CS:GO, has extended his contract with Astralis until 2026 in the early days of Counter-Strike 2.

Who is CS:GO’s greatest-ever player?

The Dane was one of the founding members of Astralis in 2016 and was a crucial piece of the most dominant team in CS:GO, which went on to win 19 notable trophies, including four Majors, plus the first-ever Intel Grand Slam.

During his CS:GO career, device earned 19 MVP awards — four of them with TSM and one with Ninjas in Pyjamas, the rest with Astralis — and made it into the Top 20 Players of the Year eight times, with one second-place and four third-place finishes.

During Astralis' decline in the online era, device moved to Ninjas in Pyjamas in a shock transfer for a brief stint before taking a sabbatical and returning home in October 2022. Now, he has reaffirmed his homecoming by extending his contract with Astralis, which was set to expire in 2025, through to the end of 2026.

"Nicolai is in many ways synonymous with Astralis and the positive winning culture we work with every day," says Kasper Straube, Astralis' Sports Director. "He is an extremely important part of the team and the development we are currently undertaking.

"He is rarely the loudest in the room, but you are never in any doubt about his commitment and in every way possible, he is a role model for his fellow players. Both on and off the server, he is a natural focal point and his achievements speak for themselves."

device also shared some words of enthusiasm after penning the new deal. "I've said it before, but Astralis is my team, and I will do everything to get us back to where I feel we belong," the 28-year-old stated. "There's a lot going on in the CS world right now, but for me it's about us thinking long-term and continuing what we've started. That is why I am extra happy about the extension, which shows how much both parties really want this.

"I'm really happy to be here and truly enjoy being part of it all. You feel a a new optimism all around the organization, and although we still have a long way to go, I am completely calm about our future prospects and the possibilities of achieving our goals. cs2 needs new skill sets. for a team to stay on top of the board, they need more than a nice prospect. they need experience. young players tend to strike out after a good period....for starters. snappi will never reach the same level for keeping top level momentum as glaive or karrigan, for a longer period of time. Neither will siuhy.

It’s true that even stars need great IGLs. But to be fair it’s also easier for a good IGL to win with star players. Snappi has performed well with two rosters now. Maden and Dycha are not star players and NertZ was really inexperienced before joining. Compare these riflers with Hunter, Niko and JKS. Also I think we’ll all agree, that Monesy is at least equal and also better than SunPayus, but Ence have been performing better than G2 in 2023. It’s not as simple as you’re trying to make it
