Media: EG set to drop Counter-Strike division

After a long stretch of disappointing performance, Evil Geniuses are reportedly on the verge of departing the Counter-Strike scene.

EG have struggled for years to achieve tangible success in Counter-Strike

Evil Geniuses are set to drop their CS2 team and exit the Counter-Strike scene, according to a report by Richard Lewis. The report comes not long after Evil Geniuses dropped their DOTA 2 lineup.

Richard Lewis went on to state that, due to a combination of an economic downturn and Evil Geniuses' own struggles behind the scenes, the organization may go on to fold entirely.

Evil Geniuses entered the CS:GO scene back in 2019 through the acquisition of the former NRG lineup, one that featured the likes of Tarik "tarik" Celik and Vincent "Brehze" Cayonte, having fielded teams in Counter-Strike 1.6.

The roster Evil Geniuses brought onboard was one of the top teams in the world at the time and would go on to win a handful of Big Event trophies, including ESL One New York 2019, and hit the top spot in the world rankings during the online era.

Media: EG left scrambling as JACKZ, zorte no longer part of plans *

Results soured when LAN play returned, however, and the organization has not been able to achieve any notable success in Counter-Strike since. A roster featuring Jake "Stewie2K" Yip imploded due to internal issues, the infamous 'Blueprint' project never really got off the ground, and their attempts to put together a European roster in the most recent off-season failed.

Throughout all of that time there were claims of mismanagement and poor working conditions behind the scenes, and even prospective signings have been critical of Evil Geniuses in the past.

NAF on EG: "Liquid is light-years ahead of this organisation"

Lewis' report suggested that we may be witnessing "the beginning of the end" for the organization, citing a combination of the aforementioned issues, an economic downturn, and rocky relationships with key sponsors.

It was stated that Evil Geniuses had recently retained the services of a financial advisory company that specializes in working with "companies in need of operational improvements," and are also looking to sell their LCS slot, lending credence to the idea that the organization is in trouble.

Well ty EG for supporting the NA scene for a while but sadly you’re being used in the future as an example of it doesn’t matter how much money you have, if you mismanage your business as bad as their leaders did, eventually you’ll have to pay the price.

It's called the fucking truth in regards to EG. Stop trying to defend a shitty ass org that has done irrefutable damage to the entire esports industry. And in CS, they've crippled NA CS even more than it already was. They can forever go fuck themselves for it. EG is literally the most indefensible org in fucking esports history.

EG leaving CS is more of a win than a loss. At least they can't ruin the little reputation NA has got left now. And they can't destroy young NA rosters anymore buy just randomly throwing together players into horrible teams. Good riddance

Reputation? They were having a roaster of 10 players getting paid and were competing in both tier 1 and tier 2 tournaments, for the record, they also won Furia with their second team. Now watch these players switch to valo, as if the NA scene wasn't dead already.

Esports is a significantly oversized market that has been continously propped up by VC capital with the hopes that the growth of the scene will continue infinitely. The reality is that esports is over leveraged and needs a market correction. Pushing continuous growth and reinvestment will only fuck over the future even worse. Despite all the economic shit, eg leaving the scene is still objectively good becayse their awful management has contributed greatly to the collapse of NA cs.

+100 Despite what people might say otherwise, EG shutting down is actually a blessing for esports, and if we put into CS context, it's even frankly a blessing for even NA CS too.

bruh NRG is just gonna be another Reason don't you remember when they sold their entire roaster to EG because they were winning events and the players wanted better salaries so NRG said "our CS team is getting too expensive to mantain, we selling them" lmfao theyre not coming to be a top team, they're most probably getting 2 known Tier 2 NA players and 3 18yo kids

NRG is not gonna be another Reason lmao. Unlike Reason, NRG is an actual org with management and money. And it's not unreasonable for what they did back then. Years later, they should now be capable of maintaining a roster since NRG today is not the same as NRG back then.

yea, they have realistic management who know their limits and know whats best for the org, unlike EG. They couldnt support a tier 1 team in the CS scene at the time, so when their team ended up being super successful they sold it so their players could get the salary they deserved. Now they can support it, so theyre coming back. BTW, EG managed to take that top tier NRG roster and run it further and further into the ground until it completely died

Hahaha I remember it like yesterday when NRG got bought by EG and once they did the team won back to back events (in pretty convincing way, don’t get me wrong, EG were pretty impressive) and all the NA fans were screaming “ez 100% event win rate” who would have thought those 2 trophies are going to be last for EG in next 4 years lol (no I don’t count domestic NA online covid tournaments). Anyway bye bye Evil Geniuses wish you best of luck in other games.

One one hand, I'm sad to see EG bow out of the CS landscape. On the other, it's not like the organization is in any way similar to where EG started. EG has needed to fold for a while, it's clear that there was mismanagement for years. It also underlines the need to have someone who understands the landscape steering the ship, because it's clear that EG haven't had that identity in a long time.

Computer science pays well, but im sure he would be making better bag in CS, especially if he gets to go to majors again. He is still good player and has good personality, which can take him far. Also lots of experience

ye but what's the point when you can't qualify anymore and you have to endure an incompetent org for so long. Better off to just fly back to VALORANT at this point for getting screwed for this long.

Idk why tf are people saying "finally". A developed scene needs orgs and NA losing orgs means players losing the oportunity to be pros and earn a salary. Eg had terrible management but they still invested a LOT into CS

all they invested in was destroying NA CS even more when it was already getting crippled. And EG as an org needed to be permanently gone from esports. Further destroyed NA as a region in CS, basically abused a LoL player into retirement from pro play, put their VALORANT roster into fucking contract jail, and then a few days earlier lied about sponsors in Rocket League. People lamenting this situation are straight up being delusional. The loss of EG is a good loss.

EG's getting closer to shutting down as an org anyways. Wont be long before they're also out of the last two major esports they're in aka LoL and VALORANT.

felt to me like the org died in 2019, selling out to private equity company was the death sentence, giving the management duties to woke corporate buzzword brain retards with no sporting knowledge was the executioner

On one hand, it's always a shame to see orgs leave the scene, but on the other, I expected it for some time. Their CS branch was managed by absolute clowns and turned to trash, and with the contraction of most esports and money being so scarce, orgs simply have to trim some fat off if they want to survive. Hopefully we'll see them again in the future, but with a leadership that has more than two braincells...
