IEM Chengdu teams, format, schedule, prizes, talent

Counter-Strike's elite will make a trip to China, where a spot at IEM Cologne is on the line, for the first post-Major CS2 event.

Can FaZe continue their streak of grand finals?

The first CS2 Major may only just be behind us but there is already more elite-level Counter-Strike action ready to commence, with IEM Chengdu set to go down April 8-14.

An eclectic mix of 16 teams of all rankings and from all corners of the globe are set to clash in Chengdu, China to battle over a prize pool of $250,000 as well as an invite for IEM Cologne.

Participating teams and format

The 16 teams in attendance in China will first be split into two eight-team, double-elimination groups, which will feature best-of-one opening matches before best-of-three series play takes over for the rest of the event. The winners of each group will progress to the semi-finals whilst second and third head to the quarter-finals, where they will play out a single-elimination, best-of-three bracket for the trophy.

* Replaced Monte

FaZe will be one of the teams to watch in Chengdu as the European combine have made the final of every single CS2 event they have played, and considering the absence of teams like Spirit, Finn "karrigan" Andersen and company should be firm favorites for the title.

Astralis meanwhile will be making their debut with Alexander "br0" Bro among their number, and more importantly taking their first steps with Nicolai "device" Reedtz as their IGL. Will one of the most consistent elite AWPers in CS continue to perform, or will the leadership duties take a toll on him?

device: "I was annoyed a lot of times, I didn't feel like we were playing the way I wanted to play"

Another interesting prospect will be Liquid, who are seeking to build some momentum for themselves after their ambitious project faltered at the first hurdle by failing to qualify for PGL Major Copenhagen. A mouth-watering matchup between Casper "cadiaN" Møller and his former teammates in HEROIC awaits to kick off Liquid's campaign.

TYLOO reveal six-man roster for IEM Chengdu

Elsewhere in the competition, homegrown squads TYLOO and Lynn Vision have been placed in the same group and on the same side of the bracket. Chinese fans will be left lamenting this fact, as there is a good chance their two representatives could face off in an elimination bout during the group stage.

FlyQuest sign ex-Grayhound roster

Australian fans will be closely following the fortunes of FlyQuest, as the Aussie squad are making their debut as part of the North American organization. Christopher "dexter" Nong and his troops will be hoping to shake off the bitter disappointment of their ill-fated attempts to qualify for PGL Major Copenhagen and prove FlyQuest made a smart investment in supporting the team.

No, they just didn't make it through the rankings. Invitations to this tournament based on world ranking were sent out on January 8, when spirit was not high enough to qualify through the world ranking

There were also two open qualifiers held for Europe and Spirit Academy attended the second one, which was presumably in place of the main team since they can't both play in it.

IEM Chengdu is preview what most T1 events in 2025 will likely look like - handful of T1 teams mixed with T2/T3. Btw game times are fantastic! We need more events in Asia.

Unless there a lot of chinese fans of cs2 this will be low watched tournament, so unlikely. There will no Na / Sa viewers and it's very early for most of Europe too . Games start at 21:30-00:30 for Na/sa

Well.. B01 12 or b01 15 is still the same playingfield for both teams. Its shitty for both teams. You can argue that bo3 is better overall to "make sure" the best team proceeds. But still, both teams has "bad" bo1 mr12.
