coldzera's move to RED Canids is causing an uproar

Marcelo "⁠coldzera⁠" David is at the center of a legal case as Legacy have come out and contacted tournament organizers asking them not to let the player compete at their events with his new team, RED Canids, alleging that he is still under contract with their organization.

Legacy ask that he be barred from playing with RED Canids until the case is solved in a United States court or via settlement, and to potentially avoid conflicts of interest as they plan on submitting the 29-year-old as their substitute in tournaments they play.

Legacy had not spoken out about the subject publicly when coldzera announced his exit from the organization on April 19, nearly a month after his benching from the team on March 25, nor when the player was announced by RED Canids on April 25.

Official: coldzera set to leave Legacy

According to Legacy, when they heard market rumors about their benched player's possible move they notified RED Canids that coldzera remained under contract with their organization and that any actions taken to sign him as a free agent would carry legal implications.

RED Canids's CEO, Felippe Corradini, would have answered that his organization had no interest in buying any of Legacy's players.

The two-time player of the year was then announced officially by RED Canids on April 25 and even played his two first matches in back-to-back victories over BESTIA on the same day.

Image clippings attached to an email received by Dust2.com.br show coldzera's signature on a contract with 00NATION, the organization which had its Brazilian operation transformed into Legacy in 2023, until December 9, 2024.

Legacy also mentioned that Valve is aware of the situation and that the case will be presented to a US court. A similar move was made by coldzera when, on April 18, a note from the player's legal team stating that he no longer had a relationship with Legacy was sent to the media and several tournament organizers, including Valve.

The document was signed only by the player's lawyer, did not mention RED Canids, and was not signed by anyone representing Legacy.

usually? money. The contract establishes fees for failing to comply both by legacy or coldzera. Any contract has fees associated with its rupture. It is usually the basis for a buy-out. Just remember when yek1ndar was in VP. He closed his contract unilaterally, so he paid VP whatever was its buyout. If cold is really still under contract and signed another contract without the org paying his buyout it means he himself have to pay for this buyout.

That's not entirely true. Some contracts include clauses that require you to act in good faith to resolve issues when a 'breach' occurs. Some allow either party to dissolve the contract basically immediately when a breach occurs by the other party. Not everything HAS to be resolved through the courts, a lot of it depends on the actual wording.
