coldzera's lawyer: "We reiterate that [he] no longer has any contractual relation with Legacy"

The legal team of the two-time player of the year has responded to Legacy's claims.

Marcelo "⁠coldzera⁠" David's legal team has issued a statement to HLTV that vehemently denies that the player has "an existing contractual relationship" with Legacy, directly contradicting claims made by the organization on Monday.

In the emailed statement, which carbon copies (CCs) representatives from Valve, a swathe of Counter-Strike tournament organizers, HLTV, and Dust2.br, coldzera's lawyer, Valentina Angeli Kalaf Mussi, refers to Legacy's statements as "misleading" and "solely aimed at tarnishing [coldzera's] image" before reiterating that the player's contractual relationship with the organization is terminated.

Legacy claim active contract with coldzera, ask TOs to bar the player

"Considering the recent reports from the media [Link 1, Link 2], as well as the content of the email forwarded to the media and tournaments’ organizers by Mr. Américo Verde [Editor's note: Legacy did not send the document obtained and reported on by Dust2.br], manager and representative of Game Holding, LLC ("Legacy"), to which we gained access through third parties, in our capacity as representatives of the player Marcelo "Coldzera" David ("Player"), we hereby reiterate that the Player no longer has any contractual relation with Legacy," the statement reads.

"It is undisputed that the Player's relationship with the organization has been terminated. In fact, the absence of an existing contractual relationship between the Player and Legacy was acknowledged by Legacy itself, through a notification sent by its attorneys to the Player on April 19, 2024. Unfortunately, due to confidentiality and respect considerations, the content of the notification cannot be shared.

"The Player reserves its right to take any further measures against Legacy through the appropriate means, including in relation to the breaches of confidentiality by Legacy, regarding the dissemination of parts of the contract to recipients unknown to the Player," the notice from coldzera's lawyer concluded.

coldzera departs Legacy

The statement follows a day after news emerged that Legacy contacted tournament organizers asking them to not let coldzera compete at their events with his new team, RED Canids, claiming that the player still had an active contract with Legacy.

The organization stated that it would look to resolve the situation in a US court, and until then, intended to submit coldzera as a substitute in tournaments they play to avoid any conflict of interest issues. Legacy also stated that Valve was aware of the situation.

coldzera announced his departure from Legacy on April 19, nearly a month after the organization announced he had been moved to the bench. Neither the player nor the organization acknowledged or shared the other's announcements.

A day prior to coldzera's April 19 announcement, a note from his legal team was sent to media, tournament organizers, and Valve stating that he no longer had a relationship with Legacy.

coldzera was then announced as a player for RED Canids on April 25, and he has since played his first games for the organization.

Official: coldzera joins RED Canids

In a statement to Dust2.br, RED Canids' owner, Felippe Corradini, said the organization was aware of the statement made by coldzera's legal team and echoed similar sentiments regarding the signing of the former two-time No. 1 player in the world.

"As a representative of RED, I would like to make it clear that we have signed an athlete who is free on the market," Corradini said. "Thus, we are unaware of any impediment to Coldzera joining our organization, considering that the notice of his termination with Legacy was made publicly."
