Into the Breach begin rebuild with smooya

The remaining pieces of the squad are set to be revealed in the coming week.

British organization Into the Breach have announced their return to Counter-Strike, with the signing of Owen "⁠smooya⁠" Butterfield acting as their first step in the construction of their new lineup.

The British AWPer is the sole announced component of Into the Breach's squad thus far. The organization stated it would announce the other four players in the next week.

This announcement comes nearly four months after the disband of Into the Breach's previous lineup, an international side featuring names like Aurimas "⁠Bymas⁠" Pipiras and Kévin "⁠misutaaa⁠" Rabier that enjoyed direct qualification to PGL Major Copenhagen Europe RMR A thanks to the team's quarter-final showing at BLAST.tv Paris Major.

Into the Breach failed to make any headway in their Copenhagen RMR campaign, bowing out with a 0-3 record after losses to G2, BetBoom, and 3DMAX, dealing a death blow to that iteration of the lineup.

Headlining Into the Breach's return to action is smooya, who most recently stood in for Russian side FORZE in the team's ESL Pro League Season 19 campaign, where he managed a 1.20 rating despite their early exit from the event.

When reached for comment regarding the new lineup, Into the Breach CEO Sam "SlayTheMinotaur" Macdeonio stated that "The roster we've put together is fucking nuts and Smooya is the first piece of that puzzle.

"Given Valve's new ranking system, we'll be in the trenches for a while accruing points and getting bloody. We'll see how that goes, but we're aiming for top 15 with our new investment and sponsor."
