NAVI claim No. 1 in world rankings after EWC win

The Ukrainian organization returns to the top of the pile for the first time since August 2022.

NAVI's victory in Riyadh put them at the top of the rankings

Natus Vincere have risen to number one in the HLTV World Rankings following their title-winning campaign at the Esports World Cup.

NAVI fire past G2 to win Esports World Cup

The team led by Aleksi "Aleksib" Virolainen previously peaked at No. 2 after their surprising Major victory in Copenhagen before dropping down the rankings, as they couldn't keep up their form and suffered early exits at ESL Pro League S19 and IEM Dallas.

They returned to form at the BLAST Premier Spring Final, where they reached the final, but the late resurgence couldn't prevent their drop to fifth in the rankings ahead of the summer break.

Upon Natus Vincere's return to competition at the Esports World Cup, however, Andrey "B1ad3" Gorodenskiy's troops found form once again. They won the tournament by defeating FaZe, MOUZ, and G2 to lift the title and propel themselves to the top spot in HLTV's and ESL's world rankings.

NAVI's rise also marks the first time that an Aleksib-led team reached the No. 1 spot in the world rankings. The Finnish tactician previously came closest with ENCE (No. 2) and G2 (No. 3).

Natus Vincere replace Spirit as the highest-ranked team in the world after Danil "donk" Kryshkovets and company reached the milestone for the first time in the organization's history just over a month ago.

Spirit also got leapfrogged by MOUZ, while G2's grand final appearance returns them to the top five at the expense of FaZe, who drop out for the first time since the conclusion of IEM Sydney in October.

no bro, why would i be sarcastic? i've never been a navi hater, they really deserve to be where they are... In fact I don't know why all this hate on them, Aleksib works quietly, IM is criticized and works quietly, JL is a monster, W0nderful without words and b1t simply headshot machine, b1ad3 only praise too, WHILE EVERYONE CRITICIZES AND CALLS IT FLUKE, THEY WORK AND WIN ANOTHER TIER-S CHAMPIONSHIP...

Dont care who won this irrelevant tournament. Its not about hating navi. - 1 win straight into playoffs - Played 2 teams (out of 4 games) who literally just changed rosters - player break just ended But lets see if they win an elite or s tier tournament the next 5 months

The problem with your words is that if they win another S-tier tournament in the next five months, you’ll find three new reasons why... They won. That’s the point. The rest is the problem of other teams.

Lmao, irreevant tournament with 7 top 10 teams. There has to always be one delusional dude. So why didnt VP or Spirit defeat G2 when they just changed roster lmao

I was considering making a serious reponse to this comment, but i dont think ur 2022 acc hive mind will be able to comprehend. I will make it very simple in bullet points for u, so u can challenge yourself and think of how prestigious a win this was: - 1 win = playoff - bo1 elimination match - player break - roster changes - VP isn't really a top5 contender so idk why u bringing them up as if g2 beating VP is crazy. Vp literally haven't won against g2 in forever - donk falling asleep on the job lmao

- Everyone had the same chance. Lol - Exactly no LB so you better play your Best or youre out - that makes it more competitive. - player break? Not an excuse - roster change? Not a excuse You implied G2 is weak because of roster changed and they played against G2, dunno what you dont get. Anyway calling 1 mil prize pool tourney with 7 top 10 teams irrelevant is Just delusional. By your logic they should wait 6 months before any major tourney is played, but by then you would come up with new excuses
2024-07-23 17:34
2
Do you consider a tournament with 1 million dollars in prize money, in which all the best teams participated, to be irrelevant? G2, one of the teams that changed rosters and reached the final, also beat Spirit (which was ranked number 1 in the world) quite easily (they barely lost a map against Spirit) and also beat Virtus Pro easily.

"G2, one of the teams that changed rosters and reached the final" Not sure if you realise, but u are adding to my point. You can make no conclusions from this irrelevant tournament. Also, it speaks volumes to your intelligence when you use prize pool as the metric in which you decide the relevance. When im saying irrelevant tournament, im talking about the fact that this tournament wasn't indicative of who is going to be the #1 and #2 teams going forward. It was literally a toss up. 2024 acc btw

"irrelevant tournament" Literally had the #1-#7 seeds from the July 15th ranking "Played two teams who just had roster changes" G2 beat spirit held as #1 seed at that time. G2 have the skills to beat navi but they didn't show up Either way navi had to win multiple top 10 teams to win

Lets look at all of these top 10 teams they won against. - Furia is just not an impressive team to beat with or without roster changes. - Faze is in the worst form they've been in since cs2 was implemented - Mouz are notorious chokers on the big stage, yet it was definitely the most impressive win. Fair play - New G2 with how many weeks of practice? What a run they had. Truly only no. 1 team could take those scalps

New g2 beat TS(#1) and VP(#2) with only s few weeks of practice so i still dont get your point they showed they can win even taz said he feels like they don't have a weakness. mouz are notorious chokers but still they get placed so high on the rankings again and again While faze might be in its worst form we've seen they can beat navi and are still a top team so i don't get the point here And on furia i agree no way should navi lose to that

From that, the only "valid" point is going directly to playoffs after round 1. G2 might've just changed rosters but they also beat Spirit and VP. If G2 gets merit for those wins, NAVI gets merit for beating G2. Besides, NAVI hasn't lost to G2 since February 2023. Player break just ended but they placed top2 at Blast. So they clearly carried over their form.

Since you really want to bring it up I'll touch on the 2nd place at blast aswell. 2nd place sounds like they were in great form. 8 teams attended and lets cut out the irrelevant teams who werent gonna do anything there. Saw, Astralis, Virtus Pro and g2 with taz standing in for monesy. Now we are down to 4 teams who could realistically win the tournament. Navi managed to land (again) in the easy playoff bracket where they ultimately had to win against the winner of astralis/virtus pro in order to get their 2nd place. Another crazy run from the boys. I do see why u bring up these impressive results. This is kind of like the NAVI ERA we are currently in

Wut? The distance in the last tournament is same for every team. They beat 3 teams in top 5 ranking to win the championship. They also reached the finals in the previous tournament and won the major this year. Saying they "don't deserve #1" while being the best performing team this year is pure delusion Your argument about their match against Faze in poor form: they've won against faze 3 times in the last 4 matches they've played against them so it's just bs. And they beat G2 who destroyed Spirit.

It feels weird being at the top since we haven’t beaten spirit yet, but it also feels somewhat correct. I’d rank them top2, tied with Spirit for 1st place. Unless spirit randomly dies somehow.

They are about 5 teams switching positions at the top depending on how they perform in the last tournament(s): Na'Vi, Spirit, G2, Vitality, Mouz, Faze. Well...these are 6, not 5. I'd say it is better like this than having a team dominating like NIP did at the start of CS GO (2013-14), then fnatic in 2017-18 and then Astralis (2018-19). Maybe you can add Na'Vi in 2020-21 as well. edit: better as in more exciting to watch.

It is pretty close from Astralis in #8 downwards. I would guess Falcons leapfrogged Eternal Fire because the points that the Turkish team gained for some tournament decayed this week. It might have been their Major performance when they went all the way to the playoffs.
