Lag compensation change headlines CS2 update

Valve has made changes to bullet hit feedback and lag compensation, targets of criticism since the launch of CS2.

Valve has released an update focused on various technical changes, the most prominent being adjustments to bullet hit feedback, lag compensation, and certain animations.

Although the update may not be flashy, dropping amidst teasing from the official CS2 Twitter account over the possible addition of Train into the game, it does attempt to rectify aspects of the game that have faced heavy criticism since CS2's release.

While the patch notes were nondescript about the changes made to bullet hit feedback, they offer a clearer picture regarding the tweaks made to lag compensation. In this instance, Valve has fixed instances "mid-spray where lag compensation would rewind target hitboxes further into the past than what was on screen," addressing an issue commonly brought up by the community.

Further changes in this update include a fix for a bug that allowed players to defuse the bomb from any height, animation adjustments, and tweaks to the Armory Pass credit system.

The full list of changes are as follows:

[GAMEPLAY]
- Various adjustments to bullet hit feedback.
- Fixed a case mid-spray where lag compensation would rewind target hitboxes further into the past than what was on screen.
- Jumping in place on a sloped surface will no longer result in players sliding a short distance.
- Fixed a bug where C4 could be defused from any height.

[ANIMATION]
- Fixes for IK logic to improve third-person feet posing, especially on slopes.
- Fixed a case where the feet and legs of players could pop out of position when exiting the bomb-plant animation.
- Reduced animation-related network bandwidth usage.

[MATCHMAKING]
- Added more detailed matchmaking stats for players who try to find a match at off-peak times of day.

[MISC]
- Activating an Armory Pass no longer grants the first Armory Credit immediately. All 40 Armory Credits can be earned by playing and earning XP.

[MAPS]

Office
- Fixed geometry in the problematic jumping corner.

Ancient
- Reworked collision on the staircase to A-main for better player movement.
- Removed a tree that was creating a distracting shadow at A site.
- Adjusted collision to better match visible geometry so that players can hug the walls more closely.
- Fixed a few lighting bugs.
- Reduced shadows to increase perf in some areas.
- Fixed some spots in house where you could get stuck.
- Fixed collision gap at the bottom of B ramp.
- Fixed some disappearing mesh.

Nuke
- Fixed some lighting errors on lower graphics settings.

Anubis
- Fixed a gap in geometry.

yeah just only 100 out of 100 games is with cheaters 20% of the time bullets are not registred, or registred somewhere else cause subtick servers cannot properly callculate movement and spread acc and if u turn on bufferisation u will start teleporting and now 50% of ur bullets r not registred

Haven't seen a blatant aim bot or spin botter in a while. In very few games noticed someone was using a wallhack. Sprays do connect but sometimes inconsistent (reportedly fixed). Buffering doesn't cause any teleportation but it definitely feels like your effective latency has gone up. You are quite paranoid.

How can you get to the fluidity of CSGO when the tick rate is completely different and locked at 64 tick? All they have to do to improve the game experience is let servers cap at 128tick.

subtick is a separate tech from tickrate, we had 128 tick faceit in CS2 during beta and 64 tick is still very much worse than 128 tick.

better at what? 64/128 tick is how often client/server send/receive updates. Subtick is a feature that timestamps actions between the ticks so server can backtrack and calculate hits more accurately. So subtick will in theory make hit reg more precise, but responsiveness is still effected by servers tick rate. 64tick with subtick might be better than 128 tick at hit reg precision. Assuming calculations, lag compensation and such is calibrated properly, but it'll be worse than 128 tick at feeding updates/response-time to clients making hits feel more delayed as there's a longer wait for server to respond.

IK = inverse kinematics, calculates the pose ur characters legs stand in depending on where you're standing (like on a sloped surface, or stairs)

cool but are valve going to fix their network bandwidth usage issues which causes massive fps drops? why tf I have 350 fps on empty map with bots and then when it comes to server with real players it goes down to 150-200. source2 was intended to fix all network spaghetti code and somehow it made x10 times worse with new engine

really? i havent noticed a higher fps when doing training maps. i do notice that smokes,molotovos,water ruins the fps. but other then that my fps doesnt change from playing with bots vs on server vs players.

yeah, i have that thing too. On an offline server with bots I have 220-270fps, in a comp or prem match it drops to 150-200, in a deathmatch it drops to 80-140 and sometimes even 55...

I just hope they will revert the shadow update from 3 weeks ago where they botched up the AK spray... from being able to spray-control 15-20 bullets to being impossible to shoot more than 5 bullets is insane to me..

It does a lot once you start to see 40 and more percent, rest assured if you see 99 like I did yesterday, I could not move, type into chat anything, the game is not responsive. I have very fast internet, I can download 1GB in 15 seconds. My brother has also same issue living on the other side of country. This is crazy, I dont remember this has happened to me in MM, maybe thats just faceit issue?

Could have a lot of reasons tbh, but yeah server issues are definitely a possibility. Just in general though your download speed being fast doesn't mean you can't have a ton of loss or a bad ping. It is more unlikely though that it is the internet in that case

did you play with the latest update?? Its amazing. Went into DM and had like 55-13. Man spraying is even better than CSGO as the actual hitbox is larger (1:1) to model ratio where in CSGO it was actually smaller. They fixed the hitbox positioning while jumping as well. Man it feels great that i can peek long spray car with recoil control and transfer to elevator for the other guy.

makes spraying harder/ less accurate ffs.. spraying at mid distance should not be possible that easily or even possible at all... but the game would need good movement to begin with for strafing to be the best option for mid range so better players are more rewarded

like i said spraying is too easy with some weapons , i m not against spraying with m4 you can just spray mid range and kill people if you miss the head.. they should had more recoil it make no sense imo it s too easy. they did that so noobs like you can play the game so there is more players

I think you should be rewarded for perfectly choosing shooting-style, tapping on long range burst 3-5 bullets in mid-range fights and on short range spraying like you can spray on nearly every distance only like a long pit to a site is not viable, also moving and shooting is rewarded instead of good movement/stop to shoot etc

why valve? why u overcomplicate things when it was so easy to move to 128 ticks and have everyone cheering for you. if you wanted to be creative u could just put 256 instead and pay the cost of the upgrade with another armory pass

CS 1.6 already had perfect gameplay and connection. Instead of just reusing this netcode they keep making it worse and worse. My theory is that most of the brightest minds of Valve left the company.
