The 24 teams that will compete at the upcoming Major in Shanghai have been decided.

G2 celebrate in China after punching their ticket at the European RMR

Two weeks of RMRs are in the rearview mirror and the 24 teams that will compete at the Perfect World Shanghai Major are now decided. Three teams from Asia, seven from America, and fourteen from Europe have made it through the grueling regional qualifiers alive.

Some teams were left behind, like Astralis — who will miss their fourth Major in a row —, Eternal Fire, Falcons, and 9z. Others, like Wildcard and Passion UA dazzled in the qualifiers and surpassed expectations to qualify for the Major. BIG and 3DMAX did so stylishly in Europe's B group, going 3-0.

Now, the final update to Valve's standings before the Major kicks off on November 30 will decide which eight teams from the European RMR go straight the Elimination stage. The other six, along with teams from the Americas and Asia RMRs, will start in the Opening stage.

Shanghai Major Elimination stage invites to be decided by VRS update; fourth-place deciders cancelled

I mean how is HLTV not adressing the rulechange mid-tournament to advance more popular and successful teams over underdogs that achieved group wins? For 2 days now I wait that they find their journalistic integrity and interview the decision-makers and the affected teams... nothing. Are they just Valve-puppets or what am I missing here?

They talked about it on the 22th... hltv.org/news/40361/shanghai-major-elimi.. As for the interviewing the decision-maker part, I doubt they would be able to do that even if they wanted to. Valve employees rarely give interviews. And for the interviewing the affected teams, is it relevant ? We all know that they hate the change and that it shouldn't have been done mid-tournament. We would learn nothing new from these interviews.

fun fact first, second, third ,fourth, fifth ,etc are written as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc. Same goes for the tens and hundreads except eleventh (11th) , twelth (12th) and thirteenth (13th) so twenty-first, twenty-second, twenty-third (21st, 22nd, 23rd) and so on for other tens or hundreads.

its not a rule change, it is an enforcement of rules which were introduced over half a year ago, but somehow everyone forgot they existed these rules were already in effect at the copenhagen major, where c9 went 3-0 in the rmr but had to start at the opening stage

So why werent they communicated and enforced like that before 3D Max and BIG made the legends stage huh? Weird how everyone remembered them when money was to be lost over some top team not making legends. Tournament integrity and sportmanship be damned right? You let BIG players celebrate this achievement and then you take it back. Awesome stuff. No idea how people are even defending this

i'm not defending it, i'm just saying that it's not a new rule, it is how the rmr is supposed to be played, of course valve or pgl fucked up big time, changing something mid tournament, which annules the result of a game already played (the 4th place decider from rmr a) is obviously bs, but my point is, that i highly doubt that it is due to underdogs winning also, how would money be lost if bigger teams don't make legends? they would still be in the sticker capsules, they would have to play more games and therefore attract more viewers

if you fail to go to the playoffs, just because you have to start at the opening stage, then you don't deserve to be in the playoffs anyway

Perfect World asked to do RMRs the old way, Valve said it's okay and everything was good during the whole Europe RMR A but out of a sudden during Europe RMR B it's not okay anymore? Why the sudden change of mind? Enforce the new rule from the beginning or start to enforce it for real after the Major but don't change anything during it.

Uhm hell yes. If not angry, then at least scrutinizing the decision. That is journalists job btw. They should address that no matter how it came to be, changing rules or rule enforcement that harms or benefits only a few participants mid tournament is damaging to the e-sport, the format and also the teams.
