FMPONE on Cache: "[Valve] reached out to buy it on day one of release"

The fan favorite map seems set to return to CS in the near future.

Cache is all but confirmed to be returning to the map pool according to comments made by the creator of the CS2 version of the map, Shawn "FMPONE" Snelling.

The comments were made in relation to Cache's name appearing in CS2's game files with the latest update, suggesting the map is set to return to CS in the near future. One X user asked FMPONE to confirm whether or not Cache was returning, to which he replied:

"Out of respect for the development team I withheld comment, but they reached out to buy it on day one of release. It was a great honor and I don't want anyone to think we hesitated for one moment."

Cache Counter-Strike 2 remake released on workshop

Cache was originally released in 2014 and remained in CS:GO's competitive map pool until 2019, when it was removed in favor of Vertigo. It remains the only community-owned map to have featured in the active duty competitive rotation.

FMPONE first teased a CS2 remake of the fan favorite map in February 2024, with the map eventually being released on CS2's workshop in March of this year.

Dust_2 is iconic deal with it It's an excellent map, FaZe-Spirit showed it last Major Also long time ago but fnatic-EnVyUs in 2015. No map has more aura.

It used to be iconic. Not anymore, so nothing to deal with and thankfully its barley picked anymore. Faze-Spirit game was great because it was Faze Clan they have had plenty of great showing on all the maps. Dust 2 has got no aura anymore, its old and dead.

I tried it on community servers and it was pretty bad. Expect some optimizations to come though. But these new cs2 maps all have so much clutter and details to them that make the performance worse I guess. And particles flying around completely kill my performance for example (mollies, smokes, spamming corners and hitting them a bit etc)

for some reason valve loves flying particles, i remember in the early days of csgo the maps where full of fog and flying dust particles, train was the worst, and TOs would have the officials maps rettouched by them to remove them

particles aren't the issue, how much is rendered is instead. Also in Source, most things unviewable by players werent rendered at all, but now we have fully modeled rooftops and out of bounds areas (because no limited skybox and better for cinematic spectating

Yeah that's true, I was a bit shocked it was overpass, but it was more of a cosmetic overhaul than a gameplay overhaul, the meta didn't change. They went out their way to change the train meta completely so I think it's here to stay, at least for now

cs2 ruined inferno, not a fact about utils cuz for that i personally love maps like overpass and nuke where utils are a must, cs2 inferno is just not good overall given the changes to nades, to the map and to the nerfs of ct molotov (and it is also boring to see in proplay compared to csgo inferno)

mate the fact a map is played or easy to play on doesnt make it good. look at what pros say for example, in interviews most of them say they dont like cs2 inferno but they still play it cuz it is pretty straightforward in a way even for them. a map being played doesnt mean it is liked at top level, and mirage for that is just better even if it is old (older too? i dont remember that)

Change the filter and you will see that it's the second most played Big Event map and the first most played on LAN. So still very popular in tier1, which is impressive considering it's often the 3rd map and therefore not guaranteed to be played

-Dust2 but current Train should be out if it's not getting a huge overhaul and should be buried in the dumpsters. Old train was way more unbalanced but also way better still. Main reason is dumbing down the map way too much for pro play. For me the best map pool possible right now would be -Dust2 +Cache -Train +Overpass. Would be a very good map pool. Inferno has started to grow on me, not that much worse than previous, lots of good games on it in CS2. Mirage overhaul is long overdue but at least the map still plays great despite it's been played to death.
