The star AWPer has been benched following an underwhelming run of form and a series of disappointing results.

G2 have placed Kenny "⁠kennyS⁠" Schrub on the bench and brought Audric "⁠JACKZ⁠" Jug back into the main roster, the organization has announced.

The move comes after the team endured a string of underwhelming placings in late 2020 and early 2021, which saw them go out early at three consecutive BLAST events at the brink of the year and most recently miss out on the playoffs at IEM Katowice.

kennyS has struggled for individual form in that time, averaging only a 0.98 rating across the four tournaments G2 has attended since the team decided to keep François "⁠amanek⁠" Delaunay over JACKZ in the main roster following Nikola "⁠NiKo⁠" Kovač's addition.

The French sniper is allowed to explore new opportunities

The star AWPer leaves the active roster after a four-year stint. He was part of the French "superteam" G2 put together in early 2017 by combining two members of their former squad, Richard "⁠shox⁠" Papillon and Alexandre "⁠bodyy⁠" Pianaro, with the Envy core featuring kennyS, Nathan "⁠NBK-⁠" Schmitt, and Dan "⁠apEX⁠" Madesclaire. Since then, the 25-year-old has been the centrepiece of G2 as he was the only one to remain amid several big changes over the next two and a half years.

With kennyS out of the roster, the rest of the team is bound to undergo some key role changes, with NiKo taking up sniping duties. This, according to team coach Damien "⁠maLeK⁠" Marcel, will provide "more flexibility within our game and the current meta."

"Kenny is a pillar within G2 and a legend in the scene," G2 maLeK said. "We all all feel that, though difficult, a new home for him will be a great opportunity to remain at the top. We are excited to have JACKZ return to the team, bringing his flair, creativity and a new balance to the team."

JACKZ returns after a three-month stint on the organization's bench. While on the sidelines, the 28-year-old was seen playing with the mix team DBL PONEY alongside former G2 teammates bodyy and Lucas "⁠Lucky⁠" Chastang in various tournaments, including the ESEA Winter Cash Cups 5 and 6, in which they placed second and first.

G2 will make their first appearance with the new roster on March 13 against Ninjas in Pyjamas in Group B of ESL Pro League Season 13, which also includes Vitality, MOUZ, FaZe and ENCE.

Ya, even though JW was also dominate he still had a big difference in playstyle compared to kenny, kenny took wild peaks and even pushed situations you shouldnt, and he was able to do so cus of no MS reduction with awp, sadly the rework fucked him over but he was still doing decent for a lil time afterwards atleast. JW on the other hand never really went bananas, he was just very consistent, was very good at holding angles, Aggressive but also defensive, great player overall.

He was fine until recently, ratings wise. He had issues at majors, but he's one of the few players that was consistently better on LAN than online. Also, he fucking destroyed people in his prime. If they never nerfed the AWP movement he'd still be a top player, his style just isn't well suited to slow picks or holding angles, because he's always relied on his reaction time. His aim was always hit-or-miss, but when he had more freedom of movement he could miss a shot and reposition without nearly the same risk as now.

I awp well with a low sens but in the current meta you need awpers that can push and I'm definitely a slow map control player and control the space my team has made, not a run out second behind the entry and trade awper. And I always drop it in clutch situations. Cant flick around the mousepad enough in a 1vX with it so I see your point.

That's not it. I can play at a decent pug level with 1.4 sens too while awping but different sensitivities allow different things in-game and different positions ( and this is not me saying this but actual pros). But this is pro level, you need to be a dedicated awper for awhile. You'd feel much more comfortable playing 2.0 sens with an awp on connector when Ts take mid control and rush out A. It's common sense that lower sens makes you more precise but a bit less "mobile", and I'm not talking about sens feeling fast etc, that's just muscle memory. Niko has always played low sens, he's at 1.35 I believe but I know for sure that he's aware of things he can do or not.

The only explanation I can give is because of roles issue with NiKo on the team there were roles issue b/w niko and hnt and jackz was out so they dont have anyone for entry fraggingnow when kennyS is removed the entry fragging and role clash is removed so only 1 guy has to transition to a new role except mixing things between NiKo and hunter

I mean 90% of the players can aim with an awp. But it is hard to master. Sth people never understand when they write "AWP abuser". You need to know the angles, timing and a fucking high game sense to play it at the top level. Sth I don't expect from Niko. Tabsen for example tried also AWP. And he is a smart player and he had the aim but his timings and calmness for a good awp player wasn't there. Also when I compare Nikos A dust 2 AWP play with s1mple on the same spot there is an ocean of sweat and hard work between them...

(This is what I was writing before kennyS update, from * to *) *I'll talk about: 1) kennyS 2) Balkan team 3) Amanek 4) The update 1) kennyS: Q: Why is he still on the team? Many people point to kennyS and his underperformance as part of the problem, and another group of people respond by saying that it's due to his mindset, LAN, motivation... Regardless of this, people always demand quick results and I advocate for allowing them time, but how much? How many opportunities is the max? If the problem is LAN, why do people demand better results from him if LANs will take time to come back? A 1: Time. A 2: I understand kennyS is staying because he's a big part of the org, and they value him (emotionally) more than many of the results which is understandable, but it can lead to complications from a competitive standpoint. I hope kennyS leaves, but "kicking" him could be bad for their image (not like they care but still there's a relantionship issue maybe) if not by mutual agreement, that's why I say maybe kennyS should leave by his own, the thing is that's very unlikely since he said he's hungry to compete in streams. Maybe go full Balkan or keep it EU upgrading some players? 2) Balkan team: In short, there are not enough players to replace -kennyS and -amanek. For this to happen, it'd not only be necessary to change the players, but the management as well. With this in mind, only two roles are filled: - Kassad as coach - madenn as a replacement for kennyS However, they'd still need a 5th for amanek and I'm afraid there are not enough Balkan players to replace this role. This option is invalidated, not to mention that the manager Jérome knows the needs of each member, so they would have to communicate in English with him, like Nexa with his girlfriend etc... I think coaching staff and Amanek are vestiges from that G2 French lineup that is now other team's core. 3) "-amanek" if they had to make a change, the most optimal would be either -kennyS or -amanek With kennyS we know the reasons. If the emotional (or "branding") reasons overlap the competitive ones and they decide to stay with kennyS for a while, getting rid of amanek would be the most optimal move with the least impact, because they don't lose anything by doing that. These movements are gradual, because you have to know how to execute the movements. NiKo makes like 15-20k viewers on Twitch avg. He grants a bigger value than amanek does. By removing NiKo, they're getting rid of many important things and potentially huNter + Nexa. -NiKo will only happen after milking him and he hasn't been in the team for so long, on the other hand amanek has had his time. That'd be the "best" hypothetical scenario (if they don't remove kennyS).* 4) The update Couple days ago there was this thread saying "Kenny leaving G2 would be good for both parties." and I said "Sad but I agree, he's a loveable guy but changes are needed. The issue is not getting a new AWP, the issue is how do you say goodbye to such a legend." In my comments I've always emphasized the market value that kennyS grants and all the fans he has, so the courage to make this decision, no matter how shocking it may be and all the "haters" you'd get, must be appreciated in my humble opinion. The day Jackz was benched it was also a very difficult decision. The reason for this is that amanek and Jackz knew that one of them was going to leave if they didn't do their best, therefore both players tried their best. In the end, amanek's efforts were rewarded over Jackz's, but this does not detract from the great work he did. In the case of kennyS... he's had many opportunities without any doubt, some would argue he's had more opportunities that he should've had, but his work ethic doesn't seem to it doesn't seem to it justice... TL;DR: G2 made the best decision.

G2 has not been delivering the expected results, and they look like they can't figure out why. Sometimes i wonder if Niko's integration to the team was benefitial, it has brought a lot of movement and changes. But i want to discuss how the team could work from now on. Niko can definately awp and amanek is quite skillful with the big green as well, we've seen him as the secondary awper a fair amount of times. Kenny's been struggling hard so this was pretty expected, still it hurts. I hope Jackz comes back strong, this team needs good results badly. #G2ARMY

It is sad to hear this but i may have had something like this in mind. Kenny played ass on blast and yes he did had some moments but he was very inconsistant and missing a lot of important shots. I remember when they played against astralis i think he had 4 kills in like 20 or somethin rounds. On the other side i didnt expect niko to get the awp considering amanek was very consistant with it. Expected, but imo NiKo is too static as an AWPer. They could have tried to replace Kenny with Junior or Sh1ro, surely Furia or Gambit can't offer as much as G2. Poizon would also be a good replacement, but he might be too expensive.

G2 is one of the biggest teams. Their budget is a lot bigger than Gambit for sure, I don't know much about the org behind Furia, so can't say much about that, but it seems pretty minor too. There's more money in G2 than in all of CIS. Complexity is rolling too much though, NA teams are working with even higher amounts.

i see a lot of experts here talking how garbage he was last months a couple of things: since niko arrive at g2 their game model has changed completely. They give all the resorces/entries/picks/trades to niko. I'm not saying that is bad, but they completely play around and to the rifler of niko. They dont play anymore around the awp (as many teams do, like navi). The last game and the only game they played to the awp of kenny, he carried g2 against EG on dust2. he had freedom of movement and risked picks that with the arrive of niko he stopped doing. He is in a bad form, everyone can see that. But he is with no confidence of his teammates and nexa dont let the game pass throw him. If the game dont pass by you, how can you have impact? Its sad but is the best to g2 and kennyS This resolve the problem of kennyS but i assure you that in two or three months we will have the meme "ThE ProBLeM wAS KENnyS". g2 with this approach will continue without winning.

I think everyone is talking about how kennys is underperforming/ overrated for a while now...yes thats true he is underperforming....but nobody talking about its cause...why he is underperforming for a while...Or why he was so low of confidence....when shox was still in g2 kennys was doing fine....after the arrival of nexa and hunter he was forced to change his play style... at that time g2 became more hunter centric...this results in making both kennys and amanek to underperform.....and afterwards with niko addition g2 and their whole attacking strategy completely depends on niko...this is also a major factor why at the current scenario hunter kennys was underperforming....take mirage for an instance.... after niko addition the only position kennys was playing at ct ticket booth and jungle/nest/connector was held by niko...how would you expect your awper to perform at this scenario...before niko addition....let's say for mirage...kennys was the one responsible for connector/ nest ....and even if he died hunter managed situations....take navi, big, astralis, vitality,etc, the difference between these teams and g2 is these teams strategy shifts according to their awper.....Conclusion:- g2 was losing because of their strats (main reason) for reference watch their train, vertogo, nuke,etc strategy they are giving way too much space to their enemy to work with...

I agree that at present benching kennys was right move for g2 as kennys fails to deliver at more niko, hunter centric g2...and he will bounce back strongly and i will keep on supporting him...Now he has opportunity to perfectly reset and stabilize himself to regain his lost glory..And as for g2 they need to change their strategies....not every round can be played passive neither aggressive, you need to find balance...this is the reason why astralis dominated since 2018 faceit major...or why gambit able to win iem katowice 2021 sure it is online but look at their team strats and coordination....for reference watch gambit vs navi train game @ iem katowice 2021.....

Kennys, had good aim but imapact in game is bad. He was losing to much oppening , he was losing to much awp was expensiv for team. He had some clutches but. But i dont remember any decider round or important oppening he had for team. /_ HE didnt manage to use his skils to benefit team. ( I am not talking now about other player, have lot for them to....)
