Initial invites for PGL CS2 Major Copenhagen closed qualifiers revealed

While still subject to change, an update to Valve's Regional Standings has revealed the initial list of invites to the closed qualifiers.

Valve have updated their Regional Standings after the conclusion of competitive play for the year, and as such the tentative invite lists for the PGL CS2 Major Copenhagen RMR closed qualifiers are now known.

16 teams have been directly invited to the closed portion of the qualification process in Europe, to be split across two qualifiers, with eight invites each being granted for the North America and South America closed qualifiers.

With regards to the Asian region, four teams have received invites for the Oceanic closed qualifier, four for the Chinese closed qualifier, three for East Asia, and one for the Middle East.

PGL unveils RMR Major qualifier locations

The qualification process for PGL Major Copenhagen begins with open qualifiers, and then proceeds to a closed qualifier stage. A raft of teams will qualify for the closed portion via the open qualifiers, but some teams have been granted direct invites based on the Regional Standings.

Teams that succeed in the closed qualifiers will proceed to the RMRs, and they will join a raft of teams who placed in the top 16 at the previous Major and retained a three-man core of those rosters.

There are still potential changes that may occur across the invite lists, for example Evil Geniuses are widely expected to disband and whether 1win or Looking For Org will field a team is currently unknown. Their invites would be passed to the next-highest-ranked team in the Regional Standings.

The initial invite lists are as follows:

Not only you were wrong originally with you counting 6 russian teams in the qualifier A, you somehow edited it to also be wrong. Where the fuck have you found 11? Even if you count NaVi for some reason it is 9.

I dont exactly see the problem tbh. They clearly haven't gotten any better and have been stagnant or collapsing. Even in Asia, signs of improvements are showing these past few months.

But still you are completely bottlenecking the region. Grayhound (the previous rmr winners) should take the spot. which leaves vertex + rooster screwed. China has not even qualified for a major since 2021

m8, these past few years, OCE has been extremely stagnant and has not once made any improvements. Yeah COVID did a number but post-COVID, they still didnt even remotely improve. Why should they get more than one spot when they had so much time to improve but get nowhere. Meanwhile for Asia, there are obvious signs of improvement and have been working their asses off but yet get screwed because of OCE just being there to sticker money farm, which they have a high chance of failing this time around.

Realistically the small size of the rmr is making this awkward. Yes I agree OCE is currently a stagnant region that has flatlined in recent years but this won't help anything. The sticker money point makes no sense. Even with 1 slot, grayhound will be there. And if they cant beat grayhound they dont deserve stickers. and what has mena ever shown to deserve 2 slots?

The RMR spots are divided up evenly first and then the remaining spots that can't be divided evenly are divided based on what regions have the highest ranked team. Source: github.com/ValveSoftware/counter-strike/.. East Asia has the #1 team, China has #2 (& #3) and the Middle East has #4.

Yes, the biggest issue in Asia is not having enough teams in the rankings. There are plenty of teams that exist and have existed for a while, but simply do not appear in their rankings.

I think it should have 16 total spots so that it can atleast act as a premier APAC tourney in the calender, having 2 ME spots is fine if there are actually more than 8 teams, OCE with 1 and SEA with 1 seems very dumb to me

in fairness, there isn't alot of SEA teams to begin with. Just mixes and NKT who is probably the one to be there unless BLEED gets a roster in time and they have an APAC core and go towards the SEA qualifier.

Yeah. but at the same time I would love to see more of these teams get a chance at lan, having more to play for would elevate the whole region, I know many arent super interested in the region but I feel like Valve could do a little bit more to help regions that dont have much to play for and making the asian RMR have 16 teams like all the others would be a great start imo

Unfortunately, until teams confirm their rosters the best you can do is eyeball the top 16 at Paris and figure out which cores still exist: liquipedia.net/counterstrike/BLAST/Major.. Liquipedia do helpful note on their RMR pages that the former cores of Heroic, Into The Breach, Natus Vincere, and Fnatic no longer exist or are in question: liquipedia.net/counterstrike/PGL/2024/Co..

As long as NIP has Rez, K0nfig and headtr1ck they have their spot at the RMR locked from finishing top 16 at Paris Major. So potential roster changes before RMR must be with esetag or alex, if they touch the other 3 they lose their spot at the RMR. They are so far down Valves regional ranking system (around #50 if iirc) so they had ZERO chance to get an invite for the closed RMR, so if they replace any of the core of three with someone who did not play in NIP during the Paris Major they have to go trough the open RMR - And that would be impossible for NIP in their current state. They are still partner with both ESL and Blast so you can expect to see them struggle troughout 2024 - But in 2025 the partner teams are no more so this is NIP's last chance to get their shit together lmao

They have 3 AMER players by Valve's definition so they are guaranteed to play in either NA or SA. After that, from what we have seen the last few major cycles, they usually look at residency and Liquid are based in NA more than SA. So the logical conclusion is that they will play in the NA qualifier.

Well, I think they plan to play/live in Europe most of the time, but if you have to decided residency, I think the two NA players outweigh the one SA player. EDIT: Of course, I don't really know the exact logic Valve uses.

I think the rules are designed for the open circuit for 2025 where you cant just invite teams you want to for massive pricepools and just inflate ranking that way etc, they are also getting better and better but yeah they arent really perfect, then again i dont really feel any, like HLTV or ESL, are that great, especially the more you go down in rank

Part of Valve's problem is going to be relying on HLTV for match data, if match coverage of minor regions remains poor than the ranking will remain poor. ESL's ranking is a joke if you ask me.

They will be fighting a handful of decent(ish) teams that have been together a lot longer for a single RMR spot, but NKT should be the favorites.

Top 8 (I think) teams from the Paris Major qualify directly to the RMR: Vitality, Gamer Legion, Faze, etc... These tournaments are pre-qualifiers for that RMR.

Top 16 actually, but 2 of those teams were from the Americas, so 14 total in EU. A few of those teams have fallen apart though, so the final count will end up being smaller.

Why is China and East asia two separate regions should just be called East asia considering how much of a joke asian cs is.

All of the best teams come from those 2 sub-regions, they may as well get as many teams as possible from there for the RMR. Please note: I disagree about Asian CS being a joke.

Mongolz are good but reality is asian cs is still behind and still sucks. no way does china deserve it's own region considering they won zero tier 1 lans in their history.

"Three-man cores of teams who placed in the top 16 of the BLAST.tv Paris Major will be directly invited to the Regional Major Ranking events." so this means... vitality (apex, zywoo, spinx) gamerlegion (keoz, acor, isak) apeks (jkaem, nawwk, kyxsan) monte faze nip (k0nfig, rez, headtrick) falcons (snappi, maden, sunpayus) guild eagles g2 ence (hades, kylar, goofy) furia but not heroic, liquid, into the breach, natus vincere, fnatic. why aren't heroic and liquid in these lists?

Liquid aren't ranked at all and Heroic (assuming the core remains) aren't ranked high enough to get invited to this stage.

Valve's ranking is a weird, not sure how it takes roster changes into account. They wind up with multiple roster versions of the same teams in their rankings all the time too. If you look right now you will see two version of Heroic on the rankings.

navi changed their line-up long time ago and played in multiple events since then, liquid and heroic haven't played a single game yet with new roster

So teams may have to play 6 qualifiers and 2 group stages (which are qualifiers too) in order to play in the final event. Why don't we just pull teams from a hat instead, seems more fair to them.
