Favorites prevail in day one of PGL Major Copenhagen Americas RMR open qualifiers

An eventful day one in Europe segued into a far calmer start for the Americas.

Day one of the qualifying process for the PGL Major Copenhagen Americas RMR closed qualifiers has concluded, wrapping up with the completion of the Round of 32 matches.

Among the many squads signed up to play in the South American and North American open qualifiers, all eyes gravitated towards a handful of newly put-together sides, including Liquid, NRG, and O PLANO. In the end, these three teams made their way to day two of their respective qualifiers, alongside other strong domestic squads.

The South American qualifier was the first of the two Americas qualifiers to kick off, with O PLANO, ODDIK, and Legacy headlining the list of teams vying for a place in the closed qualifier.

While ODDIK and Legacy marched through their day one matches with little difficulty, Epitacio "⁠TACO⁠" de Melo's troops on O PLANO narrowly dodged an early exit to Solid, overcoming their compatriots 13-11 to make the second day of games.

North America's open qualifier was dominated by interest in the debut of Casper "⁠cadiaN⁠" Møller's Liquid, a squad with little room for error considering the unforgiving nature of the bracket's lengthy single-elimination format.

Fortunately for the Dane and his men, North America offered little in the way of resistance en route to the second day, with their most notable opponent, FLUFFY AIMERS, securing only a single round during their meeting on Ancient.

Other squads of note included NRG, Owen "⁠oBo⁠" Schlatter's gaming4fun mix, and vagrants, featuring former Evil Geniuses Blueprint players Josh "⁠PwnAlone⁠" Pigue and Anthony "⁠CLASIA⁠" Kearney.

NRG and gamin4fun clashed in the final match of day one, with NRG coming out on top 13-3, while vagrants toppled Mythic 13-6 to make day two of the qualifier.

These two qualifiers will pick back up Tuesday, with the South American qualifier resuming at 20:00 , while the North American one returns to action at 03:00 . The remaining sides in each qualifier will need to secure two more wins, a BO1 and a BO3, to move on to their respective closed qualifiers.
