Liquid & M80 make Americas RMR, NRG eliminated at end of qualifier

The newly-assembled NRG lineup will be missing out on the RMR.

NRG fumbled an 11-4 lead over Rocket in the first map of the series

Sunday marked the conclusion of the North America closed qualifier for the PGL Major Copenhagen Americas RMR. When the dust settled, six squads stood out above the rest to join the already qualified sides of Complexity and Wildcard in Mexico.

The first trio of teams to secure qualification on the final day were Liquid, M80, and BOSS, with Casper "cadiaN" Møller's men requiring an extra day to qualify after being swept aside 13-3 by M80 on the first day of play.

Rounding out North America's contributions to the RMR team list were Nouns, Badass, and Rocket, who each claimed their spots after do-or-die wins in the 2-2 pool, which most notably featured Rocket stunning NRG 2-0 to qualify.

Complexity and Wildcard claim Americas RMR spots

The third and final day of the closed qualifier kicked off with a slew of elimination matches, seeing NRG, Carpe Diem, and Badass keep their runs alive at the expense of their respective opponents of LOS, my life be like, and Cloud 10.

Shortly thereafter, the first games with places at the RMR up for grabs began. Notably, Liquid secured a straightforward win over Party Astronauts, a comforting prospect considering their earlier loss to M80 and narrow wins over Badass and Nouns.

The other two sides to qualify with a 3-1 record were BOSS and M80, who had to clear Rocket and Nouns, respectively, to book their tickets to Monterrey.

The most shocking result of the day came in the 2-2 pool, as Damian "daps" Steele's men on NRG met an early end to their Major qualification campaign after faltering to Rocket.

NRG started well by procuring a dominant 11-4 lead on their pick of Anubis, but Rocket mounted an impressive comeback on the T side to drag the map to overtime. Although NRG edged ahead in the first half of overtime, a clean sweep from Rocket in the second half allowed them to steal away the map.

Rocket kept up the momentum on their pick of Mirage to take an early lead, which NRG began to whittle away in the second half. The Canadian-majority side eventually claimed the lead, but again the map was quickly brought to overtime, where Rocket rallied to send daps' side packing.

Elsewhere in the 2-2 matches, Nouns bounced back from their earlier loss to M80 with a convincing win over Carpe Diem, while Badass secured their RMR appearance with a narrow victory over Party Astronauts.

The list of teams locked in for the PGL Major Copenhagen Americas RMR now looks as follows:

They added oSee. The roster makes no sense if they want to seriously challenge, even at the top of NA.

They started with a known failure, I don't think oSee is a solution.

He might not be the solution, but I don't think he's a failure. He feels like appropriate AWPer for the skill level that NA's tier 1 is presenting.

I'm just basing it on his time with Liquid. I only glanced over their RMR games and saw mostly Breehze underperforming.

Did you watch him play much in Liquid? I ask because to me he was frustratingly inconsistent, usually bad with some decent moments. It even looked like he might be better with the rifle than the AWP. It makes no sense to me to take the core of a failed team and add an AWPer like that, unless you don't care about results.

Struck me as an average/slightly below average AWPer to be fair. I remember one pop-off Overpass game when he did a good job holding A.

i think the bigger problem is that through 26 maps played daps has a higher rating at 1.06 compared to brehze's 1.05... brehze is so washed its insane

Daps calling is the main problem imo but i think he was supposed to coach not igl and he had to switch when they didnt get autimatic (thats what people say anyway)
