Tech delays, printer issues, and European struggles on day one at GET Rio

Delays and postponements marred the first day of play in Brazil.

IT sorted out fresh prints for the boys

The opening day of the Global Esports Tour in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, was not an easy one. It was marred by delays and two matches, MIBR vs. paiN and OG vs. Monte, even had to be postponed.

The first round, which pitted Monte and paiN started two hours late, and the match going into overtime didn't help the schedule, either. In the end, it was the Brazilians who prevailed on Anubis, 16-14.

Imperial and Metizport also played a long game, going all the way to the last round of regulation before the Brazilians could take Inferno against the Swedes. Nicolas "Plopski" Gonzalez Zamora, standing-in for star player Linus "nilo" Bergman, was his team's best performer with a 1.32 rating on the map.

9z were the first and only team in the openers to take out a Brazilian squad, none other than the Andrei "arT" Piovezan-less FURIA. Antonio "MartinezSa" Martinez and Franco "dgt" Garcia turned up with 1.68 and 1.60 ratings, respectively, in a 13-6 drubbing on Overpass.

The surreal moment of the day came before the MIBR vs. OG bout, when the match was delayed because the teams could not print out their tactics.

The fact that such a minutia could delay a match in the first place should perhaps prompt consideration on whether the practice should be allowed in the first place. In the end, with cluttered desks on both sides, MIBR made quick work of OG on Vertigo, 13-4.

The match between Imperial and 9z, which went to the Brazilians, was delayed due to the ongoing EWC qualifier in Brazil, and in the end the matches between MIBR vs. paiN and Monte vs. OG had to be rescheduled.

I support allowing players to have papers on the desk. But teams should print those out beforehand, its no reasons to delay match because of this kind of thing. Also we should focus on the games not a thing like this. Does't Furia have academy squad where they could get a player to play instead of Guerri?

Does not make sense. I mean we don't see TO providing, I dunno, clothes for the players. Well such rule may be in rules, but does not make it make any more sense. And even if this is because of some rule, I don't think any match should be delayed because of this.

how tf do teams go to an event without their tactics already printed out? why should the event organizers be held accountable for the fact that teams can’t be bothered to print out their own stuff

I might be wrong but I think it might be a common thing in ESL/BLAST/PGL tournaments and other big TO's and the reason could be that in theory, it would be possible for teams to cheat somehow using the papers, as they could add nanochips to the paper or whatever. if the TO prints out them, they know for sure there's nothing wrong with them
2024-04-19 11:56

this could be an explanation, but i doubt TO’s are preoccupied with nanochips on sheets of paper when they allow players to use their personal mouse and keyboard

There are no nanochips on paper or whatever. Such technology does not exist outside sci-fi movies.

nanochips on paper lmao. But the real use of the in-tournaments printers is because of real time scheduling as matchups are defined after every result. Pretty obvious tbh.

the event was supposed to be in 2023 and it was postponed for several times, more than 1 year later the event is finally happening but they literally requested more money (2.5 million BRL) from the Brazilian government 1 day before the event started dust2.com.br/noticias/47451/cbge-respond.. so my guess is that a lot of things that were planned might not be executed and maybe they are missing staff because they can't pay them

Compared with this, China's extremesland which had also clashes against IEM Chengdu Asian closed qualifier, was successful. Teams participating IEM qualifier were placed on earlier matches, and had made little delay.
