The leadership of 9 Pandas has been revamped with a new IGL and coach.

9 Pandas has announced the addition of Aleksandr "⁠shalfey⁠" Marenov and Artem "⁠Fierce⁠" Ivanov as their new IGL and coach combo, replacing Denis "⁠seized⁠" Kostin and Andrey "⁠Xoma⁠" Mironenko.

Xoma recently made his way to Virtus.pro to take up the head coach position vacated by Dastan "⁠dastan⁠" Akbayev, whilst seized was moved to the bench to make way for shalfey.

The moves represent a significant overhaul for a 9 Pandas side that has been putting together respectable results since mid-way through 2023, when they grabbed a top-four finish at the PARI Dunav Party LAN in Serbia.

Astralis' dismal RMR run ended by 9 Pandas

9 Pandas went on to grab the trophy at the next PARI LAN, Dunav Party, later that year, and kicked off 2024 by qualifying for PGL Major Copenhagen, memorably taking out Astralis along the way. All of this coincided with a rise to the organization's peak ranking of No. 20.

Disaster struck 9 Pandas just prior to the Major as travel issues meant the team could not attend the event, although they recovered quickly after a minor wobble in some online qualifiers to bag the CCT Season 3 Europe Series 3 title in May.

The incoming duo of shalfey and Fierce arrive after spending the better part of the last three years of their careers with FORZE. For much of that time shalfey was a star player before transitioning to the IGL role after the departure of Andrey "⁠Jerry⁠" Mekhryakov, although he maintained strong numbers.

During the duo's tenure with FORZE, the Russian squad was a regular fixture in the top 20 of the world ranking, performing well in tier two competition whilst also making the occasional deep run at more prestigious events, as they did by making top-eight at ESL Pro League Season 17.

Results soured after the departures of Jerry and Aleksandr "⁠zorte⁠" Zagodyrenko, and top placings in tier two events and deeper runs in tier one events became harder to come by. FORZE eventually decided to bench their entire roster in April of this year.
