The in-game leader follows nexa to the chopping block as G2 look to shake things up further in this off-season.

HooXi's two-year spell with G2 is at an end

Rasmus "⁠HooXi⁠" Nielsen has been removed from G2's starting roster, the organization announced in a farewell video on Monday.

The in-game leader's removal is the second change in the G2 camp in the summer off-season. The organization replaced Nemanja "⁠nexa⁠" Isaković with former M80 up-and-comer Mario "⁠malbsMd⁠" Samayoa on Friday.

Official: malbsMd joins G2

HooXi's replacement is not yet known. It is however likely finalized given that the roster submission deadline for the upcoming Esports World Cup, where G2 are slated to play, is today (Monday, July 1).

HooXi joined G2 in the summer of 2022 from Copenhagen Flames. His two-year tenure got off to a poor start as the team failed to qualify for the IEM Rio Major, but the Dane went on to lead the organization to its first Big Event trophy since 2017 at the BLAST Premier World Final just two months later.

That victory kickstarted a brief run of dominance which saw G2 go on a streak of 13 consecutive Big Event match wins and claim the title at IEM Katowice in the process. In the second half of 2023, G2 also lifted another highly-coveted trophy at IEM Cologne.

But while they made nearly every playoffs, titles eluded HooXi following the triumph in Germany last August. G2's only victory came at IEM Dallas this May while Jake "⁠Stewie2K⁠" Yip was playing instead of HooXi, which came as a further indictment on the already heavily scrutinized in-game leader.

Exchanging Justin "⁠jks⁠" Savage for nexa at the brink of the year did little to change their fortunes, the Serbian was shown the exit door just six months later to make space for malbsMd, and HooXi now follows to the chopping block.

The only question that remains is who will come in to replace the Dane. Is it going to be another in-game leader, or will G2 give the reins to Nikola "⁠NiKo⁠" Kovač following his success as the temporary captain in Dallas?

there is a big difference of what Stewie2k did in Dallas and what Hooxi does, Stewie2k was trying to frag, even though he knew he was in unfavorable positions and the chances he will die before getting any kills, and what Hooxi does, Hooxi with wide peek top mid Mirage T side not even looking mid, just looking back, like wtf, I've been watching cs since 2016 and never seen this level of ignorent, if he don't like the part of the game which involve shooting the enemy, just move to coach, no need to occupy a chair 90% of IGL's in the world would love a chance to set in.

He's right, I'm jumping off my roof and flapping my arms to learn how to fly. If I do it for long enough, surely i'll just start generating lift one of these days, right? Grinding something isn't a guarantee of success, yes it improves your chances, but not everyone is built to be the best CS player, it's not exactly like it's just locked behind time and effort. Everyone's ceiling is different.

Cs is way different then football or basketball. Btw, if you would spend 12-16 hours a day playing football, you would get somewhere too. In cs all you need is mechanical skill, good amount of IQ, a lot of gamesense. Talent is a factor as well. If you spend 20% of your 16 years old life in game, have brain, you could easily end up as Donk did.

They won as soon as M0nesy started dominating, hunter got his shit together, and they got rid of Jackz with a superior fragger, jks. Hooxi has no relevance to that. Aleksib is a vindicated IGL, it wasn't him that caused failure during M0nesy's rookie months. It was the activated core of Niko, Hunter, M0nesy reaching the height of most dangerous fragging core in the game with the fact they had a 1.0+ rating of jks fairly consistently that won them trophies.

He did NOT have good form with Aleksib, no sir. Aleksib was with him a short time and that was during the rookie months that he was experiencing growing pains in the team. He started to shine after he got more comfortable in T1 and that's slightly before Hooxi joined and he got more comfortable after. He only started getting 2.0+ maps after aleksib was out of the picture. He had his worst events with aleksib and after Hooxi joined started posting 1.2+ averages, to no credit of Hooxi btw. Posting a 1.34 in their first event together. Strikingly close of a rating to when you said he "ACTUALLY" started dominating.

Players? Sure.. The IGL? Damn that's a huge change.. They could have done it right after the Major, so they would have more time to practice/figure out the spots/comms/synergy. If they make NiKo the igl, it could work out in the short term, since all 3 of these things are already there. But adding a new one would be rubbing salt in the wound. But I doubt NiKo will work out as an IGL in the long run.

Obviously there's more to it than that, and he very likely just doesn't want to, but I'd love to see him try. I think hampus in Bleed would be a great fit for G2 as igl and a realistic choice. It would certainly benefit Niko with his more loose style of calling instead of constant micromanaging from someone like Aleksib in the past. Hooxi wasn't bad as a caller for them but hampus is a space-taker as well and sharper aimer.

F I actually think he did a good job overall, won some prestigious trophies and improved along the way. I think he has a lot to be proud of in his first true T1 experience, he won things that most IGL's didn't even get a chance to see those trophies and walk past them. Looking forward to see what's his future plan, it would make sense for him to go wherever next G2's IGL is from, or maybe Liquid. I think he has a lot to offer. karrigan has no reason to leave and siuhy has same reason both have good teams. Niko got much prep to his opponents by hooxi in dallas so what we saw is something that we won't be seeing for while if niko takes IGL. it would be better to hunter to take IGL because he was calling at CT sides already and most of the g2 pistol where his calling. (I don't remember that well but nexa, aleksiB and hooxi all have said in interviews that hunter could be good IGL because he's selfless player and understand quite deeply tactical side of the game) Hooxi achieved something in G2 that not many teams have ever gotten what I'm talking about is finish top 8 in every tournament since paris major only exception was BLAST Premier: Fall Groups 2023 which was 7-9th finish. and we gotta remember that twice TAZ trolled their map picks ones in Copenhagen major and 2nd time in IEM Chengdu 2024 which cause them to lose 2 games

They should try to get gla1ve at this point: - He could bring experience and IGL skills that could transfer to NiKo in the long run - He can take an anchor position, even if his rating is only 0.93 atm given the headshot machines he'd be playing with - He seems like a genuinely good vibes guy - gla1ve could accept a relatively low paycheck given the step up from ENCE if it doesn't work out then they can get rid of him if a few months and say they tried, and let NiKo IGL. Adding another star or even top tier anchor is not what they need. Yet. (also for this to work, hunter would have to agree to play more anchor roles)
