G2 CEO Alban Dechelotte has confirmed that Ilya "⁠m0NESY⁠" Osipov has been sold to Falcons due to his contract expiring at the end of the year.

The Russian superstar will complete the move straight after PGL Bucharest and make his Falcons debut at IEM Melbourne, set to start on April 21.

m0NESY has been in Falcons' plans for a long time and came close to signing in the winter off-season, but the two organizations couldn't come to an agreement. With the superstar's contract now set to expire in just eight months, G2 have decided to bite the bullet and avoid losing m0NESY on a free transfer.

"Rumors are true. We have decided to accept the trade of our young goat of CS," Alban Dechelotte, G2's CEO, said in a statement.

"Ilya's contract ends in December of this year and we decided to maximize our chance of rebuilding our team for the future with this trade instead of hoping for a last minute turn of events.

It was obvious that he was becoming a bit disconnected from the rest of the team due to his situation

The news comes straight after Falcons defeated m0NESY's G2 in the grand final of PGL Bucharest, with the Russian AWPer coming in to replace tournament MVP Abdul "⁠degster⁠" Gasanov.

Dust2 is the Best example, snax and hunter sit on b for nothing while others don't know what to do, because there is no 2nd caller. I'd say 50% is a very modest estimate, their CS division has nothing going for it anymore. Niko is a powerhouse for him self and he was likely solely responsible for -50% of fanbase. Not that degster could replace m0nesy but better than Hades. But if there's one good thing about degster that former G2 lineup and the current one could have used is the overall "positive vibe" degster brings (can't tell about the past but he seems to have learnt his lessons from the past), the mood often killed G2, like they were always so mood-focused.
