A Brazilian derby will take place in the quarter-finals, while the favorites, Vitality, will go up against NAVI.

The BLAST.tv Austin Major group stage has come to an end, and the playoffs are right around the corner. Play will move to the Moody Center on Thursday, June 19, where the first two quarter-finals will take place.

Two more quarter-finals will take place on Friday before the semi-finals on Saturday and the grand final on Sunday, after which a new Major champion will be crowned.

Spirit will continue their title defense in the playoffs against MOUZ on one side of the bracket, while Vitality, who lost their winning streak in the group stage's best-of-ones but have since been on a tear, continue atop the favorites list and will play their next match against Natus Vincere.

On the other side of the bracket, FURIA and paiN will play a derby, with FaZe clashing The MongolZ in the other quarter-final.

For those who want an explanation for the matchups. Spirit faced harder competition than Furia according to Bucholz, and therefore Spirit is 1 seed, Furia is 2 seed. The format is 1v8, 2v7, 3v6, 4v5. The 6th-8th seeds are 3-2 teams. Mongolz faced the hardest competition and are therefore the 6th seed, while MOUZ faced the easiest and therefore is last seed. Meaning pain is 7th seed. 1st and 2nd seed are placed on opposite sides of the bracket. So spirit cannot face Furia until the finals. Which is why Mouz vs Spirit and Pain vs Furia is on separate sides. Ome side has seeds 1 and 8, as well as 4 and 5. The other side has 2 and 7, as well as 3 and 6. Overall, the bracket makes sense when viewed as the teams seeds due to positioning, but when looking at the VRS rankings it makes one side of the bracket absolutely stacked. 1) Spirit 2) Furia 3) Faze 4) NaVi 5) Vitality 6) Mongolz 7) Pain 8) MOUZ This is why the bracket is so lopsided, not really anyones fault, just the way the system works.

Petition to reseed by VRS

See this is what i dont get, they did this for shanghai after the RMR where they reseeded the teams by VRS before seeing who got sent to Legends stage, but the playoffs did not and used Bucholz seeding. Keeping everything uniform would be nice. They should either stick to fully Bucholz or fully VRS. Cry loud enough and it honestly might happen, but which VRS do they base it off of? The April VRS used to see who qualified, or the most recent June VRS?

The World Ranking is not used to create the seeds for the playoffs. It resulted this bracket because the number 1 and number 2 teams in the world only placed 5th and 8th respectively in Stage 3 as I detailed above. The results from Stage 3 are used to make that bracket.

We are talking about different stages. In the Swiss Stages (those that have just ended) there were 16 teams in every one of them. The matchups for the first matches were 1v9, 2v10...8v16 instead of the "classic" 1v16, 2v15...8v9 because, for the second option, if every "favorite" would have won its match, the first 8 wouldn't have come through as they would have eliminated some of them along the way. Now it's the final, playoff stage and we come back to the classic 1 v 8, 2 v 7 etc as we are crowning a single team, the champion instead of more teams that would just progress to the next stage. I didn't explain very well, I hope it makes sense...
