Liquid outlast EXTREMUM to advance to cs_summit 8 upper bracket

Aaron "AZR" Ward's troops will have a chance at redemption in the lower bracket.

Liquid are through to the upper bracket semi-finals of cs_summit 8 following a 2-1 series win against EXTREMUM, a match in which the North American roster initially looked like a revitalized side from their first two showings against Extra Salt and Bad News Bears, but failed to close out a dominant lead on Mirage and needed a Vertigo decider to edge out the victory.

"Calling on this team has been a bit of a test," Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo stated in an interview after the match. The Brazilian also said that Liquid already had a good structure when he arrived on the team, and pointed towards Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski and Jake "Stewie2K" Yip often taking the initiative to call and make plays in rounds.

"We might try and have Stewie back [to calling] just because it's gonna be easier for me," FalleN went on to say, explaining that the team had protocols and rules he had not thought of deeply prior to joining them. He also revealed that Stewie2K had been in-game leading with his help in their last series, and stated that Eric "adreN" Hoag was brought on to help evolve some gaps that may exist as a result of the different structure so the team can reach the next level.

Stewie may become the primary caller for Liquid once again

Although EXTREMUM got a head start on their pick, Inferno, their lead quickly dwindled as Stewie2K came to life on the secondary AWP for his side. The initial 1-5 deficit was nowhere in Liquid's minds as their demeanor bore a stark difference to their earlier matches, where they had struggled to close out early leads, with smiles all around on the player cams as they conceded just two additional rounds en route to a map win.

Liquid's good spirits continued into Mirage, where they opened the proceedings with another one-sided scoreline, heading up an 11-4 lead at the break. However, a resurgence from EXTREMUM and an entirely uninspired defense from Liquid led to the Oceanic side claiming match point first, and although Liquid were able to fight into overtime, AZR's men were able to even the series score by edging out a map win.

A similar scenario seemed set to unfold on Vertigo, where EliGE hit his stride in a 10-5 opening half for Liquid before a comeback from EXTREMUM got underway, with Hansel "BnTeT" Ferdinand leading the way to tie the scoreline at 12-12. Multi-kill rounds from EliGE finally put a halt to EXTREMUM's efforts, allowing Liquid four final rounds to take the series.

Theory craft time. Say jks does leave Col due to role clash with BlameF. Jks comes back, drop Liazz. Put BnTeT in Liazz roles and have jks play like he used to. Suddenly you have a star lurker/clutcher back in his natural role plus a support who can frag bigger. Which also reduces pressure on Grat, so he can play more freely. And jkaem can go back to pure entry.

Idk about grat. Most of his death more on his fault, he like to play aggressively but he lack of awareness that put himself to bad spot at bad timing.

Liazz isn't really an issue, Replacing him would only be for the only purpose of getting an upgrade, JKS is defiantly an upgrade but the main issue is Gratisfaction

They lost map for themselves to be honest. But NA are still bad... NaVi, Heroic and Gambit will destroy these teams in MD3's.

grat and liazz were expected to step up when jks left but neither of them have. Roster change? Or just disband at this point tbh.

Extremum just need to replace Grat with someone that consistently have impact and they'll be a good team. Half of the time they have zero AWP presence and it kills them.

Assuming he’s trolling would assume he’s a good player. I don’t think those 2 go hand and hand when it comes with gratz. He’s just never seemed like that bright of a player for the longest

Extremum on their way back. Unfortunately i can’t see them go that far with gratisfaction in the lineup. Grat and nawwk are the exact same players. Once in a while they go nuts, but mostly they’re at the bottom of the scoreboard with low impact. Nawwk couldnt reach consistency, and it feels like the same with Grat.

honnestly, Stewie is not a good igl, he is too emotional. Yesterday, he had a good game, but tomorrow, we don't know. And when he is not feeling it, his calls are also bad. Fallen is , at least, more stable. I hope they will keep Fallen as the second caller.

How do you like the updated EXTREMUM after the bootcamp in the EU? Few expected that they would fight Liquid on equal terms. I wish BnTeT and the company good luck and further growth :)

Im expecting that -FalleN will happen soon. No point on taking from him IGL duties when he was doing good before that Dignitas match. He is an good awper nowadays but if they’ll retain him just as awper is better to bring some youngster with more upside.
