The 32-team list for the Maltese event is complete following the distribution of five World Ranking invites.

Spirit will attend Pro League after missing out on Season 19

ESL has announced the five teams invited based on their World Ranking to ESL Pro League Season 20, scheduled to run from September 3-23 with $750,000 on offer in Malta.

Among the invites are IEM Katowice and BLAST Spring Final champions Spirit, who return to the league after missing the last two seasons.

Spirit rise to No. 1 for first time in history

Leonid "⁠chopper⁠" Vishnyakov's side was ranked too low when the previous season's World Ranking invites were distributed, and then declined a last-minute invitation to replace Cloud9 to miss out on the Maltaese tournament despite being the No. 2-ranked team in the world at the time.

The MongolZ join the list after an impressive first half of 2024, during which they made the Legends Stage of PGL Major Copenhagen and won titles at YaLLa Compass and MESA Nomadic Masters.

Virtus.pro and Eternal Fire also received invites, while 9z secured the final spot after a late breakout at the end of the season when they made the semi-finals of IEM Dallas and won FiReLEAGUE Global Finals.

The remaining 27 teams were already known before the announcement, with the list including the 14 Louvre Agreement partner organizations and 10 winners and runners-up from ESL's regional Challenger Leagues.

3DMAX earned a spot through the European Conference, while MIBR's victory at ESL Challenger Melbourne and Falcons' second-place finish at ESL Challenger Jönköping locked in their spots.

So, from top 30, missing teams are: Boomboom (18), Aurora (24), pain (26), Gamer Legion (29) and Saw(30). Teams outside top 30 that made it are Sangal, Lyn Vision, Koi, Red Canids, Wildcare, Atox and Cocks.

They blew it due to their overly packed schedule but there is no excuses for losing the eu closed qualifier. They should have had that shit in the bag. Same with regular season esl challenger. They lost to much worse teams and have nobody to blame but themselves. I hope they qualify to the major atleast

it does, Aurora spent like 6 months without attending a single Lan event after Pari Please. Tho i agree, they just started playing lans consistently.

Getting rid of SELLTER and making Norwi IGL has improved their consistency and raised their floor tremendously. I genuinely think they can be a solid team in top10 if they rest well during the playbreak and come back with high motivation and good ideas

Yeah, i also think that. Being wainting for deko to find a decent team for years, and its finally happening. deko, r3salt and KENSI are a solid core, but i still think Lack1 is dead weight. Edit: no disrespect to lack1, he does his part, but i have a feeling he is the first on the replacement list if they need to.

They went to Jonkoping a few days ago and got through the group without dropping maps but were then eliminated by eventual winners Complexity: hltv.org/events/7601/esl-challenger-jnkp..

Not to mention they took a map off of coL and could have won anubis cause at one point the score was like 6-2 in their favor. Could have definitely been finalists and destroyed Falcons

Thats true. But The major, inspite of being the most prestigous tournament, is not the most competitive tournament. Always a bunch of fraud teams slipping through the swiss systems and top5 teams matched against each other early on

they don't say it last as by ranking but last as by the date they breakthrough into invite pool, one example if maybe 9z won dallas for example and got ahead of ef and mongolz they would be still considered the last to enter because the result came late in the season.
