Perfect World announce RMR and qualifier invites

Over a hundred teams received invites either directly to each Regional Major Ranking event or its closed qualifiers.

Update August 10: Akimbo reassigned to NA closed qualifier

Akimbo, a Mongolian-majority team residing in North America, have been reassigned from East Asia, filling the last spot in the NA closed qualifier that was previously empty due to not enough teams being ranked.

Perfect World have confirmed the list of invited teams to the Regional Major Ranking events in Europe, Americas and Asia and their respective closed qualifiers ahead of the Perfect World Shanghai Major.

These are based on the Valve Regional Standings from August 6, which can be found here, and are still pending confirmation from the teams themselves, Perfect World have clarified to HLTV.

Half of the participating teams in Europe (16) and the Americas (8) received direct invites to the RMRs, while in Asia three slots were filled by direct invites. The remaining 16, eight and five teams, respectively, will come from various closed qualifiers, which will kick off from August 21.

In several cases teams were cut from the list, due to that team participating in a different region (Liquid, who could apply for either Europe or the Americas, for example) or due to Valve's ruling against one organization fielding multiple teams across the various qualifiers.

In Europe and the Americas, direct invites based on the standings served as the only route to participation in the Major qualifying system after open qualifiers were removed in the two regions earlier this year. There is however one empty slot in the NA closed qualifier at the moment because not enough teams were ranked in the region.

Open qualifiers removed in raft of Major rulebook changes

In Asia, open qualifiers remained in each of the five sub-regions to determine four of the eight participating teams in each. However, these are likely to fill more spots than originally intended, as the Middle East, China and Rest of Asia qualifiers didn't feature enough teams on the ranking to receive four invites.

It is worth noting that an outdated Cloud9 roster featuring the previous core is listed as part of the invites to the European closed qualifier, as the new roster had not yet played the required 10 matches to be ranked. It is possible that the Russian side will submit four of their current players plus Ilya "Perfecto" Zalutskiy to ensure a core of the invited roster remains intact, and then substitute him with the last player from the existing roster ahead of the start of the closed qualifier.

The Regional Major Ranking events will all take place in Shanghai, China from November 11-24, ending less than a week before the Shanghai Major kicks off on November 30 with the opening stage. The entire online portion of the qualifying stage will run between August 21-30 depending on the region and stage.

The full list of invites in each region can be found below:

It's expected based on previous RMRs. HYENAS got themselves an invite to Flashpoint 3 by registering cajunb for the team but subbed him out instantly and he never played a map for them. Under this precedent it's expected Cloud9 can register a roster with Perfecto and use interz as a substitute, then instantly sub him in and Perfecto never has to play a map. This, of course, would handicap them slightly in the event they actually need a substitute due to illnesses or visa issues. Worth noting is that the rosters for the closed qualifiers aren't locked, and can still be changed without losing your spot.

Isn't flash point a tournaments for partner teams tho? Valve tournaments may work differently, Heroic changes 3 players in 2023 but they still make it to blast world final, they could be working differently. And in this case cloud9 suffered a 3 man roster changes. But still, what you said could make sense.

It depends on Cloud9. Metisport could learn Chinese and go to play in the Asian RMRs to get a spot at the Major.

Fluxo will be forced to play with Chay since if he gets kicked they will lose the core of the last Major cycle (Chay, Zevy and Lucaozy)? That seems fair to me, imagine you helping the team get points for the Major closed qualifier invite so that in the end your team wants to kick your ass and call another player in your placexd. They are listed in the European standings, but I assume they are an East Russian team, and these typically fall under the East Asia region instead because of ping.

Yeah they are an East Russian team. But hasn't RMR spots always been based on a teams nationality instead of what region they play in? They also invited Akimbo directly to the same East Asia qualifier because they have 3 mongolian players even though this team plays in NA. Did they make an exception for GR here? To me it seems like they pulled a team out of European rankings just because the Asian rankings are so scuffed due to the lack of match coverage/data. Please correct me if im wrong here.

Russia is a unique case due to it spanning both European and Asian regions. Notice also how some Brazilian teams live in NA and get to play in that qualifier and it still wasn't enough to fill that up, I think that speaks for itself. It's also not the nationality but the RMR region as a whole that matters, if a team has a 2-2-1 setup like Liquid, they can apply for EU or AMR, technically the same applies to Wildcard in that case too.

GR is ranked 118 in Valve's Eu rankings. There are plenty of other Russian teams above them that didn't get invited to any qualifiers. I think Valve specifically made made an exception for GR because they have played in some Asian events. Which is kinda weird. You are talking about wildcard but Im guessing you meant to say akimbo. Basically what annoys me about this invite is that Akimbo plays in tier 3 NA, but get invited to Asia qualifiers over some actual asian teams just because hltv covers NA games, but doesn't cover Asian games. Valve uses data from hltv for their ranking system so basically Akimbo gets points whereas Asian teams dont. I made a whole thread about this issue and the asian rankings. I suggest you check it out!

Remember the ECL Asia standings and how teams like -72c, GR and LYG played out of Siberia? That basically explains that part. No no, I meant Wildcard because they have 2 EU, 2 NA and then Sonic as the 5th, allowing them to choose between EU and NA. Akimbo played in NA but chose the easier path via Asia, Legacy and E-Xolos meanwhile chose to play in NA instead of the SA qualifier, it's all a little weird.

It's not an exception, the same team and one more East Russian team played in the East Asia closed qualifier for Copenhagen as well The way I see it, it would simply be unreasonable to force a far east team to play in European qualifiers on crazy ping, when they have a much closer region to them in Asia where they can play under reasonably similar conditions. Based on their history as well you can see they are an Asian team, they never play in any European competitions. hltv.org/events/7399/pgl-cs2-major-copen..

I would have countered with the old QUAZAR roster but that was a Russian Far East Qualifier on it's own back in the day which then went to EU RMRs afterwards back when the Asia RMR was still at 4 spots. It just makes sense for them but that does make it interesting that Akimbo (formerly G3/OMiT) chose to go into East Asia against their country's top rosters knowing full well it's gonna be an uphill battle to win that qualifier but still finding that easier than going through NA CQ and the AMR RMR.
2024-08-09 12:37

GR played same asian tournaments that any Chinese team could play. And if they have more points, it's not because bad hltv coverage, it's because GR just played better. Akimbo is more controversial. However Valve rules doesn't forbid, for example, american team play a lot of CCTs on a bootcamp in Europe and then play Americas RMR

Gr did not play better lol. They are pretty bad even on the asian standards. The lack of hltv is absolutely a part of the reason why they got the invite. Hltv doesn't cover ECL Asia which is the biggest reason valve doesn't get enough data from matches and this makes the Asia ranking incredibly inaccurate outside of the top teams. Gr are currently at the bottom of the rankings in ECL Asia btw. Gr got all of their points from getting destroyed in a few qualifiers that HLTV happend to cover. And again im not mad at the fact that Akimbo is allowed to play in Asia rmrs. What pisses me off is that Akimbo only got the direct invite because they farmed tier 3 events in NA that Hltv fully covers. Some asian teams literally have 0 points on the valve rankings because hltv doesn't cover them, despite these asian teams showing far better results than Akimbo. Sorry about the long rant. I just think its ridiculous that hltv/valve hasn't realized that they are actively messing up the rankings. There is also no excuse not to cover ECL Asia they seemingly just dont want to do it and they haven't even given a proper reason as to why.

GR indeed were playing quite good before the departure of qqGOD They got second place in a qualifier to Blast showdown and finished the group stage in ECL Season 47 with a record of 22-6 which made them start play-off games in an upper-bracket semis, where they played with coach and still finished the season on 4th place getting 3k$, which basically gave them this CQ spot, as standings in Valve rating depend on prize money.

The East Asia qualifier is basically the Mongolian qualifier. It just sucks that team like Akimbo, GR got invited instead of IHC, The huns ect... This is because valve doesn't have enough data on asian teams due to the lack of match coverage by HLTV. But don't worry plenty of Mongolia teams will be able to make it from the Open Qualifiers.
